Overview

Old Dominion University (ODU) invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions in the Department of Ocean, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (OEAS). One position is in marine microbial ecology and the other in coastal processes. The department seeks candidates who will contribute to undergraduate and graduate education and develop an active, externally funded research program.

Areas of interest

• Marine microbial ecology: research areas may include microbial contributions to marine productivity, food webs, and biogeochemical cycling; microbial proteomics, genomics, and physiology. Strong interest in applying developing technologies, including biochemical or molecular-biology approaches, is particularly desired.
• Coastal processes: research areas may include observational physical oceanography or coastal dynamics. Specific interests include coastal and shelf circulation, surf-zone processes, surface- or bottom-boundary layers, sediment transport, air-sea exchange, Quaternary processes, and the impacts of climate change on coastal systems such as salt marshes, estuaries, and barrier islands.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses aligned with the department’s curriculum and contribute to student mentoring in a robust graduate program (MS and PhD).
• Develop and maintain an active, externally funded research program, including proposal development and collaboration with OEAS and related units (e.g., Center for Coastal Physical Oceanography).
• Engage in scholarly activities, graduate student supervision, and contribution to departmental and university service.
