Job description

Job Summary

Carry out cargo handling duties, general cleaning, maintenance, and other manual labor as assigned or directed.

Reporting

Reports to: Crane Operator. Supervision: None.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma (U.S.) or proof of completion of formal education or relevant craft certificate (where applicable). Successful military discharge – Preferred for U.S.
  • Graduate of a trade school or university where knowledge and training acquired are applicable to job requirements – Preferred.
  • For Norway: Must hold qualifications in accordance with relevant authority requirements, the requirements of the Havtil ref. Activities Regulations. Minimum participation in education as per NOG024 for Operator level.

Operational Discipline and HSE Responsibilities
  • Disciplined application and participation in Task Planning & Risk Assessment Process.
  • Understands and performs roles and responsibilities as assigned at the pre‑job meeting.
  • Understands hazards associated with tasks and implements control measures.
  • Executes all tasks in a disciplined manner, following the sequence outlined in procedures.
  • Recognizes at‑risk behavior or conditions during tasks and calls ‘Time out for Safety’ when unsure or when job does not go as planned.
  • Participates in After Action Reviews to provide lessons learned.
  • Protects personnel, environment, and assets by eliminating hazards and reducing risk.
  • Executes work in accordance with company OI & HSE requirements and reports incidents or hazards.
  • Incorporates Control of Work process into all work, whether alone or as a team.
  • Maintains a safe and organized work area throughout and on completion of all work.
  • Participates in all emergency drills and exercises as required.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Housekeeping: cleaning, tidying, disposal of trash.
  • Surface preparation and painting.
  • Assists in preventative and corrective maintenance of rig equipment.
  • Manually moves equipment, tools and materials around the installation, using manual lifting aids and working ‘Hands Free’ when possible.
  • Supports other department supervisors (drilling, maintenance, engineering, marine, subsea) when directed.
  • Ensures all lifting equipment complies with NORSOK R‑003; maintains knowledge of statutory requirements and rig procedures.
  • Performs cargo handling operations: inspection of cargo for dropped objects, inspection of slings and shackles, inspection of cargo containers, storage of rigging equipment.
  • Identifies, reports, and disposes of damaged lifting equipment.
  • Uses Hands‑Free tools to control loads and understands hazards related to proximity to danger and suspended loads.
  • When competent, acts as banksman for crane operations, utilizing approved hand signals or radios, following correct communication protocol.
  • When competent, operates air hoists, chain hoists and other lifting devices.
