Job summary

CTL Engineering is hiring ODOT prequalified Inspectors for roadway and bridge projects in Northeast Ohio, including the I-90 project in Cuyahoga County. The role involves inspection, testing, and construction administration across state, county, and local sites, with frequent regional travel and mileage reimbursement or company vehicle option.

Ideal candidates will hold ODOT prequalification for Structures and have inspection experience on ODOT-funded projects.

Qualifications

• ODOT prequalified Structures Inspector required.
• Experience with state-funded projects in roadways/bridges is preferred.
• Valid driver license and acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and enforce quality standards and specifications.
• Read project drawings, specifications, blueprints, and work on a variety of construction projects.
• Perform construction administration and inspection services for state, county and local roadway and bridge projects.
• Inspect construction projects for contractor compliance with plans and state specs.
• Verify plan quantities and calculations align with bid plans.
• Prepare and maintain project records and reports in a timely manner.
• Provide status updates to the Project Engineer or Contractor.

CTL Engineering is hiring ODOT prequalified Inspectors for roadway/bridge projects, initially the large I-90 project in Cuyahoga county.

We are looking for ODOT prequalified Inspectors (structures) who will play a key role in all aspects of construction administration, inspection and testing services for ODOT bridge and roadway projects in Northeast Ohio. You'll leverage your expertise in construction inspection/testing and creative problem-solving skills while collaborating closely with institutions/municipal agencies.

Highlights:

• This position works independently on broad projects under direction of a Dept. Manager.
• Projects are typically in the greater Cleveland/northeast Ohio region. Frequent travel within this region is expected.
• Mileage reimbursement for personal vehicle use (or a company vehicle may be provided, based on the assignment).

Responsibilities:

• Monitor and enforce quality standards and specifications.
• Read project drawings, specifications, blueprints, and work on a variety of construction projects.
• Perform construction administration and inspection services for state, county and local roadway and bridge projects.
• Monitor and enforce quality standards and specifications.
• Inspect construction projects to ensure contractor compliance with state specifications, plans and/or proposals on roadway and bridge projects.
• Verify plan quantities and calculations are within bid plans.
• Prepare and maintain project records and reports in a timely manner.
• Notify the Contractor or the Project Engineer with status updates or about non-conforming work.
• Conduct quality control testing at project sites, including concrete, soils, masonry, asphalt, aggregate and reinforcing steel.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Project Engineer or Project Manager.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of engineering, construction, testing and inspection principles.
• Experience with materials and lab testing.
• Experience with quality control testing and compliance specifications.
• Experience with standard testing and observation methods.
• Ability to read blueprints and construction documents.
• Understanding of construction or engineering services.
• Experience in performing quality control initiatives and performance testing.
• Skill in lab reporting, writing reports and maintaining records.
• Ability to manage projects with little/no supervision.
• Demonstrated ability of monitoring construction and demolition environments.
• Must be able to interact well with others.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in external environment conditions during difficult weather.
• Ability to provide status updates independently.
• Be quality-minded and client-focused.

Minimum Qualifications:

• ODOT prequalified Structures Inspector is required
• Construction inspection experience on ODOT funded projects.
• Experience with concrete, asphalt, earthwork, and utility construction engineering services and inspection/testing is a plus.
• Must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record.
