Job summary

CTL Engineering, Inc. is hiring ODOT prequalified Inspectors for roadway and bridge projects, starting with the I-90 project in Cuyahoga County. The role focuses on construction administration, inspection, and testing with asphalt emphasis across Northeast Ohio.

Ideal candidates will have experience with material testing, quality control, and reading blueprints, and must be able to work night shifts and travel within the region.

Qualifications

• ODOT prequalified Asphalt Inspector II preferred but not required.
• Experience with asphalt inspection/testing and adherence to specs.
• Ability to work frequent night shifts and travel within NE Ohio.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and enforce quality standards and specifications.
• Read project drawings, specifications, and blueprints; work on roadway/bridge projects.
• Perform construction administration and inspection services for state, county, and local projects.
• Inspect construction to ensure contractor compliance with plans and state specs.
• Verify quantities and calculations align with bid plans; prepare reports and records.
• Provide status updates to Project Engineer and notify about non-conforming work.
• Conduct asphalt quality control testing at project sites.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Engineer or Project Manager.

CTL Engineering is hiring ODOT prequalified Inspectors for roadway/bridge projects, initially the large I-90 project in Cuyahoga county.

We provide civil/site design and land surveying, environmental, geotechnical, construction administration & inspection , accident reconstruction, roofing/building envelope, A/V system design, troubleshooting & installation, transportation design (bridge/roadway), and specialized testing services to the construction industry.

We are looking for ODOT prequalified Inspectors (asphalt) who will play a key role in all aspects of construction administration, inspection and testing services for ODOT bridge and roadway projects in Northeast Ohio. You’ll leverage your expertise in construction inspection/testing and creative problem-solving skills while collaborating closely with institutions/municipal agencies.

Highlights

• This position works independently on broad projects under direction of a Dept. Manager.
• Projects are typically in the greater Cleveland/northeast Ohio region. Frequent travel within this region is expected.
• This role will require frequent night shift work.
• Mileage reimbursement for personal vehicle use (or a company vehicle may be provided, based on the assignment).

• Conduct asphalt quality control testing at project sites.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Project Engineer or Project Manager.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Knowledge of engineering, construction, testing and inspection principles.
• Experience with materials and lab testing.
• Experience with quality control testing and compliance specifications.
• Experience with standard testing and observation methods.
• Ability to read blueprints and construction documents.
• Understanding of construction or engineering services.
• Experience in performing quality control initiatives and performance testing.
• Skill in lab reporting, writing reports and maintaining records.
• Ability to manage projects with little/no supervision.
• Demonstrated ability of monitoring construction and demolition environments.
• Must be able to interact well with others.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in external environment conditions during difficult weather.
• Ability to provide status updates independently.

Minimum Qualifications

• Construction inspection experience on ODOT funded projects.
• Extensive experience with asphalt inspection/testing, adhering to specs is required.
• Ability to work frequent night shifts.
• ODOT prequalified Asphalt Inspector II is preferred but not required.
• Must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record.
