We are seeking dedicated and experienced candidates for the position of Correctional Sergeant. About the Job – Your Role As a Correctional Sergeant, you will be a senior security staff member responsible for overseeing custody, control, supervision, and daily care of adults in custody while upholding the mission of the Department. You will serve as a lead worker, ensuring facility operations run smoothly, safely, and efficiently. You will supervise AICs during movement assignments, monitor high-security areas, and conduct security operations such as transports, searches, and emergency response. In this role, you will also play a key part in staff development, assisting in training and potentially mentoring subordinate staff as a Field Training Officer (FTO). You will lead by example, modeling professionalism, accountability, and behaviors that support rehabilitation efforts.
This position is represented by American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). This position may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.
Minimum Qualifications You must be a current ODOC Correctional Sergeant employee to be considered for a lateral transfer request. You must be currently DPSST certified to request a lateral.

Requirements for Employment The successful candidate for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, there may be some felony convictions that could disqualify you for this position. However, having a felony record does not exclusively restrict you from being considered as an applicant. CJIS clearance is done at the conditional job offer. ODOC does not offer visa sponsorship.
