Job summary

TransMedics, Inc. is seeking an OCS Specialist to maximize and support the Organ Care System across retrieval, transport, and post‑transplant phases. You will train on all platforms, apply OCS knowledge during organ handling, and assist with lab trainings and R&D activities as needed.

The role requires on‑call flexibility, strong communication, and the ability to travel domestically to clinical sites. A BSN or related medical degree with experience in ICU, ECMO, or transplant is preferred.

Qualifications

• BSN or BS with equivalent medical experience and 2+ years in ICU/ED/transplant.
• Experience with organ retrieval, ECMO, or related protocols is preferred.
• Willingness to travel domestically for site support.

Responsibilities

• Complete OCS hands-on training and certification.
• Support organ retrieval, preservation, transport, and assessment per TransMedics protocols.
• Communicate updates with Organ Management and hospital staff.
• Work on-call 24/7 rotations and domestic travel as needed.

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The OCS Specialist maximizes and supports the use of the OCS for organ retrieval and transport prior to, during and after transplantation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

• Completion of rigorous hands-on training and OCS certification across all organ platforms at TransMedics’ training facility in Andover, MA.
• Apply OCS knowledge during organ retrieval, preservation, transport, and assessment according to TransMedics protocols and policies.
• When not on OCS call days, perform assigned tasks during standard working hours, either remotely from home or as assigned, including but not limited to: Managing inventory & shipments on a weekly basis
• Assist with Lab Trainings
• Participate in R&D activities in lab
• Assist with establishing launch points
• Participate in medical and scientific conferences and meetings (inside or outside the US)
• Communicate regularly with Organ Management Phone Support to relay real time updates while supporting ongoing OCS cases
• Regularly communicate OCS utilization activities and users’ feedback
• Annual recertification on all organ platforms
• Timely submission of post case documentation and preparation/presentation of case reviews (with support and review of senior colleague) following the use of the OCS
• Provide customer support as needed (e.g. hospital in-services & refresher training)
• Perform other TransMedics tasks and duties as assigned/required.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

This position manages the following positions on a daily basis. This position will not have management responsibilities.

PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES

• Must be able to lift 75lbs up and down stairs.
• Must be fully vaccinated (and boosted, when eligible) against respiratory viruses including but not limited to Influenza and COVID-19.

The Company provides legally required accommodations to this requirement where an accommodation can be provided without posing an undue burden to the Company. However, given that the vaccination requirement is often a condition to our work at hospitals, and being on-site at hospitals is an essential function of the position of an OCS Specialist, there are limits on our ability to provide accommodations that do not pose an undue burden to the Company.

• Ability to work on call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, for 15 days per month (including holidays/weekends).
• Ability to fly domestically to clinical sites within and outside of home regions to perform OCS support as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

BSN or BS degree in combination with equivalent medical experience, with 2+ years’ experience in ICU, ECMO, Cath Lab, OR, Transplant, and ED.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and virtual meeting platforms
• Highly flexible and willing to support sites as needed within and across regions
• Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills; able to work collaboratively and build rapport with internal and external contacts
• Excellent customer interaction skills
• Works calmly and professionally under pressure
• Enthusiastically works in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple tasks

Salary and Compensation

TransMedics is committed to equitable and transparent compensation. The expected base salary range for this role is $106,500 - 132,900 which represents the company’s current good‑faith estimate of compensation for this position. Actual salary will depend on factors such as, but not limited to, candidate experience, qualifications, skills, and the specific work location.

This role may also be eligible for bonuses, equity, and a comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision, retirement savings, paid time off, and wellness resources).
