Job summary

Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego is seeking an Oceanographic Instrumentation Engineer to support calibration, maintenance and deployment of specialized oceanographic instruments aboard research vessels and shore facilities.

You will work within a multidisciplinary engineering team, maintaining calibration schedules, testing sensors and assisting expedition preparation for cruises, with opportunities to contribute to data collection efforts and technical documentation.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in electronic or mechanical engineering or equivalent.
Experience operating at sea on oceanographic research vessels.
Experience with oceanographic instrumentation systems and safety considerations.
Proficiency with electronic test equipment for maintenance and calibration.
Understanding of ocean data collection theories and practices.

Responsibilities

Provide calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, deployment and operational support for portable and shipboard oceanographic instrumentation.
Support calibration laboratory operations, sensor inventories and calibration schedules; perform calibrations and routine maintenance of sensors.
Configure, test, pack, ship, load and install scientific equipment for research cruises; assist expedition preparation.
Provide technical support to research vessels ashore and at sea; support data collection and instrument reliability.
