Non-Smoking

Job Responsibilities

  • Monitor beach patrons and ocean conditions to ensure safety.
  • Enforce City ordinances.
  • Perform water rescues, administer first aid, and CPR as needed.
  • Regulate activities threatening patrons or property.
  • Maintain lifesaving equipment and facilities.
  • Serve as a spokesperson.
  • Assist with computerized recordkeeping.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • Successful completion of the Ocean Lifesaving qualification test.

Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations

  • State of Florida Emergency Medical Technician 1 (EMT 1)
  • American Heart Association and/or American Red Cross Professional Rescuer CPR Certificate
  • Valid Florida Driver's License with a good driving record

Knowledge of Basic Life Support procedures, lifesaving, resuscitative techniques, beach operations, and proficiency in emergency medical procedures are required. Ability to swim and run with endurance, perform emergency procedures, and operate defibrillators is essential.

All employees should respond positively to supervision, maintain a professional appearance, report promptly, and demonstrate courteous behavior. They should also operate equipment properly and respect cultural, religious, and gender differences.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Employees frequently sit, talk, hear, handle objects, and reach. Occasional walking, running, swimming, bending, climbing, and lifting up to 45 lbs are required. Work is performed inside and outside under various weather conditions, with exposure to hazards and infectious diseases.
