Job summary

AXA XL’s Ocean Marine Underwriting Team in the U.S. Northeast is seeking an Associate Underwriter to support the renewal and prospecting lifecycle from submission to expiration under underwriting oversight.

You will engage with brokers and clients, develop pricing for Hull & Machinery, Marine Liabilities and Ocean Cargo, and manage multiple accounts within AXA XL’s rating tools and processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or related insurance experience and/or training; or equivalent.
• Analytical, negotiation and sales/marketing skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; customer service focus.
• Interpersonal skills to work with diverse groups.
• Strong prioritization and time-management with accurate results.
• Organizational, problem‑solving and critical thinking skills.
• Robust collaborative skills in a fast-paced environment.
• Advanced proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Review risk and assess completeness of underwriting package; communicate with Brokers to collect information.
• Apply product underwriting rules for quote preparation.
• Collaborate with Underwriters, Brokers, and AXA XL internal units to manage tasks and accounts.
• Communicate account status to ensure completion of subjectivities for policy issuance and premium collection.
• Set up new business and renewals in online rating tools for Hull & Machinery, Marine Liabilities and Ocean Cargo; develop initial pricing.
• Manage workflow and status of tasks owned by Underwriters, Brokers, and AXA XL internal network.
• Communicate account status to ensure completion of tasks including premium collection.
• Collaborate verbally and in writing with internal and external contacts across the country to meet client expectations.
