Job summary

Canopius, a global specialty reinsurer, seeks an Ocean Marine Underwriter with 3+ years of underwriting experience to support growth of our Ocean Cargo, Hull & Liability portfolio in the United States.

You will evaluate risks, price new and renewal business, expand broker relationships, and manage an assigned territory, while maintaining underwriting discipline and profitability.

The role offers a hybrid working model and growth opportunities within a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
• 3+ years of commercial underwriting, Ocean Marine preferred.
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
• Progress toward CPCU/AMIM or equivalent.
• Existing broker relationships within marine insurance preferred.
• Understanding of marine cargo, logistics, and vessel operations.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new and renewal Ocean Marine business within guidelines.
• Evaluate risks and determine pricing, terms, and coverage.
• Analyze submissions, loss history, and exposure data.
• Present underwriting recommendations for complex risks.
• Maintain profitability, retention, and growth targets.
• Develop and maintain relationships with marine brokers.
• Manage assigned territory and broker distribution strategy.
• Collaborate with leadership and teams on strategy and growth.
