Job summary

DHL Global Forwarding in Charleston, SC, is seeking an Ocean Import Agent with strong communication and customer service skills to ensure accurate and timely freight movement by ocean.

The role handles quoting, document review, shipment status updates, and liaison between customers and processing teams, with opportunities to grow within a global logistics leader.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year experience with ocean imports/exports.
• Strong understanding of ocean import/export regulations and documents.
• Able to work, communicate, and resolve problems in US movement of product.
• Attention to detail and excellent oral and written skills; customer service desirable.
• Quick learner with a can-do attitude and strong prioritization.
• Exceptional customer service skills.
• Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Cargo Wise systems knowledge is a plus.
• Hazmat certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Quoting, account creation, SOP responsibility.
• Confirm all shipment information with origin to initiate shipment; knowledge of Incoterms required.
• Receive and validate customers order including shipping documents, SLI, EIN, credit application.
• Review/update; verify fees, customer profile, SOP, and rates per quote or customer SOP/work instructions.
• Verify shipment status, review pre-alert and verify issue shipment handling instructions.
• Serve as liaison between Document Processing Agent and the Customer regarding shipment details and/or exception.
• Communicate exceptions and shipment status with Customer and Ocean Import Processor.
• Work with Accounts Receivable.
• Increase customer satisfaction and business share through regular contact (phone, email, visits).
• Initiate customer reports.

We have an exciting opportunity for an OCEAN IMPORT AGENT with excellent communication and customer service skills. Accuracy and timely movement of freight and information is a key component for this position. This position will be based at our Charleston, SC Location.

Key Responsibilities

• Quoting, account creation, SOP responsibility

Skills / Requirements

• Minimum 1 year experience with ocean imports/ exports
• Strong Understanding of Ocean Import/Export regulations and documents.
• Need to be able to work, communicate, and resolve problems that arise in the movement of product into/out of the US
• Attention to detail and excellent oral and written skills required, some customer service experience desirable
• A quick learner with a “Can-Do” attitude and strong prioritization skills
• Exceptional customer service skills
• Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Cargo Wise systems knowledge is a plus
• Hazmat certification is a plus

Pay Range

Pay Range: $21.23 - $28.31/hr. (Based on Experience)
