Job summary

Qualifications

• Licensed to work by the Board of Occupational Therapy in the state of employment.
• Hospital experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
• To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide occupational therapy treatments and services as ordered by the physician and directed by the Occupational Therapist.
• Assist with Hazardous Material Program; hazards include exposure to blood and body fluids, possible communicable diseases, sharp objects and instruments, assorted chemicals and gasses as listed in the Hazardous Materials Program Manual.
• Provide care for the Adult or Geriatric patient, ages 18 years and over.
• Assist the Occupational Therapist when performing tests, evaluations, and complex treatment procedures.
• Observe, record, and report to the Occupational Therapist the conditions, reactions, and responses of patients to established treatment plan.
• Maintain daily records of treatment sessions and document progress notes on patients.
• Assist the Occupational Therapist in consulting with family members, physicians, and other health care professionals, as appropriate.
• Assist with the care of the occupational therapy department and equipment.
• Assist the Occupational Therapist with in-service programs, and other meetings as assigned by the Occupational Therapist.
• Submit accurate patient charges in a timely manner.
• Conduct or participate in training medical and nursing personnel and other workers in occupational therapy techniques and objectives.
• Attend scheduled staff meetings, in-services and training programs.
• Actively participate in continuing education programs for self-development.
