Job summary

Virginia's Community College System is looking for part-time Occupational Therapy Assistant Program Adjunct Faculty to teach OTA courses at Virginia Western Community College. Job Title

Occupational Therapy Assistant Program Adjunct Faculty (Part-Time) – Virginia Western Community College

Job Summary

The role involves teaching face‑to‑face occupational therapy assistant (OTA) course content to students, participating in curriculum development, and evaluating student performance. Responsibilities are assigned on a course‑by‑course, semester basis, with primarily daytime classes scheduled during typical business hours. The position may also require additional duties as assigned, including support during emergency declarations by the Governor.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Deliver instructional content for OTA courses, ensuring alignment with current occupational therapy practice and educational standards.
  2. Prepare and grade assessments, provide timely feedback, and maintain accurate student records.
  3. Participate in faculty meetings, curriculum planning, and program evaluations.
  4. Assist with student advisement and support services, fostering an inclusive learning environment.
  5. Engage in professional development activities to enhance teaching effectiveness and stay current in the field.
  6. Perform other duties and support services as assigned, including emergency response roles when required.
Qualifications
  • Licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) or Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) with an active, unrestricted Virginia license, or eligibility for licensure.
  • Contemporary expertise in OTA coursework, student advisement, and occupational therapy resources.
  • Minimum of three years post‑licensure clinical experience.
  • Prior teaching experience in an OTA or OT academic program is preferred.
  • Knowledge of curriculum design, diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice concepts.
  • Experience using technology in the classroom and teaching in a college setting.
  • Ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds, with excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Clinical background in one or more of the following areas is encouraged:
    • Physical disabilities (pediatric, youth, adult)
    • Pediatric clinical settings
    • Developmental disabilities
    • Assistive technologies and devices
    • Mental and behavioral health needs
    • Older adult population
    • Rehabilitation management
    • Foundational occupational therapy concepts
