Job summary

HCA Florida Palms West Hospital is seeking an Occupational Therapy Assistant to provide patient-centered rehabilitative care in inpatient and outpatient settings.

The OTA follows treatment plans designed by a licensed occupational therapist to improve motor skills and functional independence.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
• Active state license (FL) for OTA/COTA.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire.
• Strong critical thinking and interpersonal communication; basic computer literacy.

Responsibilities

• Deliver direct, age-specific therapeutic treatments and exercises to help patients improve motor skills and functional independence.
• Execute intervention strategies, guide therapeutic exercises, and instruct patients on using adaptive equipment or everyday task modifications.
• Document patient responses, track daily living progress, and communicate status updates to the clinical team.
• Teach patients, families, and caregivers safe home techniques and adaptive strategies for daily living.
• Participate in infection control, safety, fire safety, and equipment training programs.

Job Summary And Qualifications

An Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA or COTA) administers patient-centered rehabilitative care in inpatient and outpatient settings by following treatment plans designed by a licensed occupational therapist.

Core Responsibilities

• Patient Care: Deliver direct, age-specific therapeutic treatments and exercises to help patients improve motor skills and functional independence
• Plan Implementation: Execute intervention strategies, guide therapeutic exercises, and instruct patients on using special adaptive equipment or everyday task modifications
• Progress Monitoring: Document patient responses, track daily living progress, and communicate status updates directly to the clinical team
• Education: Teach patients, families, and caregivers safe home techniques and adaptive strategies for daily living
• Safety & Compliance: Participate in infection control, organizational safety, fire safety, and departmental equipment training programs

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Associate degree in an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
• Licensure: Clear and active state license (FL Dept of Health OTA/COTA license
• Life Support: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within first 30 days of hire
• Skills: Critical thinking, good interpersonal communication skills, and basic computer literacy
