Job description

At Campbell Hall, our residents and rehab patients come to us at turning points in their lives, and we're looking for an Occupational Therapist who wants to help them get back to the everyday activities that matter most. If you believe a successful morning routine, a safe transfer, or a meal eaten independently is worth celebrating, we'd love to meet you.

As an Occupational Therapist on our Therapy team, you'll work alongside physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, nursing staff, and social work. Your caseload will be a mix of short-term rehab patients working toward a safe discharge home and long-term care residents for whom therapy means preserving function, comfort, and dignity. Your work directly shapes how independent our residents can be and how confident families feel about their loved one's care.

What you'll do
  • Complete occupational therapy evaluations and re-evaluations, and set measurable, person-centered goals with residents and patients
  • Provide hands-on treatment focused on ADL retraining, including dressing, grooming, toileting, bathing, and self-feeding
  • Work on functional transfers, upper-extremity strength and coordination, balance during daily tasks, and fine motor skills
  • Address cognitive and perceptual needs for residents across a range of cognitive levels, including those living with dementia
  • Recommend and train residents in adaptive equipment, and help with positioning, seating, and splinting needs
  • Teach residents, families, and nursing staff safe techniques and strategies so progress carries over beyond the therapy session
  • Contribute to discharge planning for short-term rehab patients, including home safety recommendations and caregiver education
  • Keep timely, accurate documentation of evaluations, daily notes, progress reports, and discharge summaries
  • Take part in interdisciplinary care meetings and share functional updates that guide the whole team's approach
What you'll bring
  • Genuine compassion and patience, especially with residents who are frustrated, fatigued, or facing a new diagnosis
  • Clear, respectful communication with residents, families, and colleagues from many backgrounds
  • Creativity in turning everyday tasks into meaningful, motivating treatment
  • Strong time management to balance treatment minutes, documentation, and team collaboration
  • A collaborative spirit and willingness to ask questions and learn from experienced colleagues
  • Sensitivity and steadiness when supporting residents and families through decline or end-of-life care
Why join us
  • New graduates are welcome. You'll have experienced therapy colleagues to learn from as you build your skills.
  • A varied caseload across short-term rehab and long-term care that grows your clinical range
  • A close interdisciplinary team where therapy input is valued in resident care decisions
  • Flexible options to fit your life, with full-time, part-time, and per diem positions available
  • Ongoing opportunities for learning and professional growth
  • Meaningful work where you see the difference you make, one regained skill at a time
Requirements
  • Current New York State Occupational Therapist license, or a NYS limited permit with licensure in progress (new graduates welcome)
  • Degree from an accredited occupational therapy program
  • No minimum experience required. Clinical fieldwork in a skilled nursing, rehab, or geriatric setting is a plus.
  • Willingness to learn and follow skilled nursing documentation requirements and facility therapy procedures
  • Availability for a full-time, part-time, or per diem schedule. Occasional weekend or holiday coverage may be requested.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for much of the shift, and to assist with resident transfers and lift up to 50 lbs with proper body mechanics or equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing
  • Satisfactory criminal background clearance (BCI), including NYS Health Commerce System fingerprint clearance
  • Pre-employment drug screen
  • TB/PPD screening and health assessment per facility policy
  • Vaccinations, including COVID-19, per facility policy
