Job summary

LEARN Academy seeks a School-Based Occupational Therapist to support comprehensive special education services for students with special needs. You will evaluate, plan, implement, and monitor OT interventions aligned with IEP goals in collaboration with teachers and families.

The role emphasizes evidence-based practice, teamwork, and ongoing professional development within a school context. This is a full-time, permanent position based in Tempe, AZ.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy is required.
• NBCOT OT examination must be completed.
• Current state OT licensure and ability to maintain licensure are required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive evaluations of students' functional abilities (fine motor, sensory processing, ADLs).
• Develop and implement OT intervention plans aligned with IEP goals.
• Collaborate with teachers to integrate OT strategies into curriculum.
• Adapt learning environments to enhance participation and independence.
• Contribute to IEP process with progress insights and intervention recommendations.
• Maintain accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, and progress.
• Participate in team meetings and professional development in school-based OT.
• Support MTSS/ RTI initiatives and universal design for learning strategies.
• Provide expertise in assistive technology and UDL to support curriculum access.
• Mentor or supervise OT assistants or students as needed.
• Deliver trainings to instructional and related service staff.

Overview

As a School-Based Occupational Therapist at LEARN Academy, you play a crucial role in supporting the delivery of comprehensive special education services to children with special needs. Working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, you implement evidence-based interventions that promote students' participation and success in their educational environment.

You will work across school settings alongside teachers, administrators, families, and related service providers to deliver high-quality support. Responsibilities include evaluating student needs, developing and implementing treatment plans, and monitoring progress toward IEP goals.

What You Have

• Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program
• Successful completion of the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) OT examination
• Current state occupational therapy licensure and ability to maintain required licensure
• Experience working with children preferred
• Ability to successfully complete required background check

What You’ll Be Doing

• Conduct comprehensive evaluations to assess students' functional abilities in areas such as fine motor skills, sensory processing, and activities of daily living.
• Develop and implement occupational therapy intervention plans that align with students' IEP goals and educational needs.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate occupational therapy strategies into the educational curriculum and provide consultative services.
• Adapt learning environments and materials to enhance student participation and independence in educational activities.
• Contribute to the IEP process by providing insights on student progress and recommending appropriate interventions.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student assessments, interventions, and progress.
• Participate in team meetings and professional development activities to stay current with best practices in school-based occupational therapy.
• Support early intervening services and participate in multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) or response to intervention (RTI) initiatives.
• Provide expertise in assistive technology and universal design for learning (UDL) strategies to support student access to the curriculum.
• Collaborate with the special education team to ensure occupational therapy services align with the least restrictive environment (LRE) principle.
• Mentor and/or supervise assistants or students in the occupational therapy community.
• Provide trainings to instructional and related service staff.
