Job Description

Responsibilities: The Occupational Therapist (School) will be responsible for providing occupational therapy services to students with disabilities, as identified through formal evaluations. The therapist will work collaboratively with school staff, parents, and other service providers to ensure the development and implementation of individualized education and therapy plans aimed at fostering students' physical and cognitive development, thereby enhancing their ability to participate in the educational environment.

  • Conduct screenings and comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations for students referred for services.
  • Provide diagnostic services and prepare reports for students identified with a disability requiring occupational therapy.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, IEP meetings, and initial placement discussions to offer input on evaluation results, recommendations, and therapy plans.
  • Work closely with special education and classroom teachers to advise on assessment, evaluation, and ongoing therapy programs for individual students.
  • Provide consultation to school staff regarding accommodations and modifications for students eligible for occupational therapy services.
  • Assist the school in coordinating with medical providers for additional support when needed.
  • Deliver school-based occupational therapy services as mandated in students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Meet regularly with students to provide occupational therapy and suggest strategies for carrying over therapy practices to the home environment.
  • Conduct consultations with parents and family members to discuss the student's progress and strategies for continued support outside of school.
  • Provide training to teachers, school personnel, and parents as requested to ensure successful integration of occupational therapy strategies.
  • Consult with other service providers and participate in co-treatment sessions to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive therapy plan.
  • Maintain and oversee the use of equipment such as wheelchairs, crutches, and other adaptive devices.
Qualifications
