UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas seeks a PRN Occupational Therapist to join a clinical team supporting Acute Care, Cardiovascular & Pulmonary, Geriatrics, Neurology, Oncology, Pediatrics, and Women's Health services.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Occupational Therapy, Texas licensure or eligibility, and BLS certification. No experience is required, with weekend and weekday shifts on a rotating basis and onboarding to fit patient needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Experience: No experience is required.
  • Licenses and Certifications: BLS certification; Texas licensed or eligible for Texas license on hire; American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR/BLS required on hire.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge of departmental policies and procedures and treatment protocols, ensuring patient safety and proper body mechanics.
  • Reviews information from patient records to identify problems, sets goals, and tracks progress to ensure timely patient advancement.
  • Designs treatment plans, documents progress, and ensures prescriptions are completed; orders equipment as needed.
  • Organizes patient treatment and coverage, assists in supervision of technicians and students, and supports on-the-job training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB SUMMARY

Seeking Occupational Therapist with the following clinical specializations: Acute Care, Cardiovascular & Pulmonary, Geriatrics, Neurology, Oncology, Pediatrics, and Women's Health to join our dynamic team.

Shift/Job Requirements:
  • As a PRN staff member, you are expected to work a minimum of three (3) shifts per month, including two (2) weekend shifts and one (1) weekday shift.
  • Current departmental needs includes two (2) weekend shifts and one (1) weekday shift, totaling three (3) shifts per month.
  • Please note: All shifts are not guaranteed and may be canceled based on patient volume fluctuations.
Holiday Shift Requirements:
  • PRNs will select their holiday preference using a RedCap survey (first come, first served) and coordinate shift swaps through a shared Google Sheet to promote transparency, flexibility, and accountability.
  • Each PRN therapist is expected to work one winter holiday: either Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day.
  • PRNs are strongly encouraged to work one additional shift tied to their assigned holiday-either the day before or the day after (i.e., Thanksgiving Eve or the Friday after Thanksgiving; Christmas Eve or the day after Christmas).
  • To increase scheduling flexibility, PRNs may substitute that holiday-adjacent shift with a weekend shift (Saturday or Sunday) within the same holiday week. This alternative allows us to meet coverage needs while accommodating individual preferences.

This will be a two-week onboarding process to be completed consecutively. We request that you provide your availability up to three months in advance, as schedules are asked every quarter to help us plan accordingly based on patient volume and departmental needs.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
  • Education Bachelor's Degree from accredited Occupational Therapy program.
  • Experience No experience is required.
  • Licenses and Certifications (BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT CPR or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) Upon Hire. Texas licensed or eligible for Texas license is required Upon Hire.
Preferred
  • Experience 1 -2 years related experience.
JOB DUTIES
  • Demonstrates knowledge of departmental policies and procedures, and treatment specific protocols regarding patient care. Passes competency reviews. Demonstrates knowledge of proper body mechanics, for personal and patient safety. Utilizes good body mechanics and instructs others in proper body mechanics. Does not compromise patient's or another's safety and maximizes patients' treatment potential.
  • Reviews information available from all sources, i.e., history and physical, overt and subjective complaints, etc. Utilizes proper testing and measurement procedures based on information gathered in evaluation. Identifies and records problems noted. For each problem identified, projects realistic goals with reasonable time frames. Determines if treatment is effective. Utilizes resulting evaluation to identify and record problems and progresses patient in timely fashion.
  • Analyzes and designs treatment plans based on patient problems and goals. Prepares for patient discharge. Records patients' progress. Orders equipment and ensures prescriptions are completed in full.
  • Organizes patient treatment and unscheduled time efficiently. Assists willingly in coverage of other patients and on-the-job training, education, and supervision of occupational therapy technicians, students and/or nursing staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
