Job summary

Cheshire West and Chester Council is seeking an experienced Practice Manager to lead the Promoting Independence Team within Adult Social Care. You will provide professional and clinical leadership to Occupational Therapists and Therapy Assistant Practitioners, ensuring high-quality, person-centred interventions for adults, families and carers.

The role focuses on preventative, strength-based practice, collaboration with OT managers across Reablement, Right Size Care and Community OT services,

• Proven leadership or management experience in Adult Social Care/OCCUPATIONAL Therapy.
• HCPC registration and current registration status.
• Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.

• Provide professional leadership, operational support and practice oversight for the Promoting Independence Team.
• Deliver clinical excellence and innovative Occupational Therapy practice for adults with physical, cognitive, and mental health needs.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, innovative, and experienced leader to join our Promoting Independence Team as a Practice Manager on a 12-month maternity cover basis. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key leadership role in a service committed to supporting adults to maximise their independence, build on their strengths, and achieve the outcomes that matter most to them. You will help drive a preventative, strength-based approach that promotes wellbeing and reduces reliance on long-term services wherever possible. As Practice Manager, you will provide professional leadership, operational support, and practice oversight, helping to ensure people receive timely, proportionate, and person-centred interventions that improve quality of life. You will work in close collaboration with OT managers across Reablement, Right Size Care and Community Occupational Therapy services.

OT Practice Manager – Promoting Independence Team

As Practice Manager, you will support professionals within the team to deliver clinical excellence and innovative Occupational Therapy practice for adults with physical, cognitive, and mental health needs. You will provide professional, operational, and clinical leadership to Occupational Therapists and Therapy Assistant Practitioners. This is an exciting opportunity to shape and develop clinical practice that supports adults, families, and carers to achieve meaningful outcomes, overcome barriers to participation and improve wellbeing. Successful candidates will demonstrate extensive clinical experience, knowledge of Adult Social Care legislation, specialist equipment and adaptations, and a commitment to continuous professional development.

The Promoting Independence Practice Manager will:

• Support the Team Manager and wider OT Service to develop and deliver innovative, evidence-based, person-centred, and outcome-focused Occupational Therapy services.
• Support operational delivery of the council’s Enabling Great Lives strategy.
• Manage, inspire, and support a team of Occupational Therapists and Therapy Assistant Practitioners.
• Work with adults, carers, and families to deliver responsive Occupational Therapy interventions.
• Provide high-quality clinical supervision and support, driving excellent standards of practice.
• Develop strong working relationships with managers, partner agencies, and third-sector organisations.
• Contribute to workforce planning, performance management, supervision, CPD, apprenticeships and student development.
• Oversee referral allocation, Waiting Well processes and weighted caseload management.
• Work collaboratively with housing, health, social care, and voluntary sector partners.
• Ensure compliance with professional, organisational, and statutory requirements.
• Ensure delivery of HR policies and processes.
• Promote safeguarding and the welfare of adults at all times.
• Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
• Current Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration.
• Excellent knowledge of Adult Social Care legislation and specialist equipment and adaptations.
• Significant post-qualification experience within Adult Social Care Occupational Therapy.
• Experience of supervising or managing staff and be able to demonstrate innovation in leading teams.
• Strong understanding of illness, disability, and occupational performance.
• Experience of multi-agency working across health and social care.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
• Commitment to strengths-based practice and improving outcomes.

• Evidence of leadership or management qualifications.
• Experience of service redesign, quality improvement, or change management.
• Experience of budget management and resource planning.
