Job summary

UnityPoint Health in Cedar Rapids, IA, is seeking an Occupational Therapist for a PRN As Needed role serving adult and pediatric patients. You will examine, evaluate, diagnose and treat, and collaborate with the care team to optimize outcomes.

Responsibilities include developing plans of care, educating patients and families, documenting care, and ensuring smooth discharge planning. A current Iowa OT license and BLS are required; multicultural sensitivity is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Meets educational requirements as necessary for obtaining professional license as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Current licensure in good standing to practice as an Occupational Therapist in Iowa.
  • Must possess and maintain current BLS certification or obtain within three months from date of hire.
  • Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
  • Multicultural sensitivity.
  • Microsoft Office – basic computer skills.
  • Customer/patient focused.
  • Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in decisions.
  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates patients/clients and makes clinical judgments based on examination data.
  • Develops patient diagnoses or problem lists and prognoses with goals.
  • Plans of care with measurable goals in collaboration with patient/family.
  • Develops and implements interventions and supervises support staff.
  • Provides education and training to patient and family.
  • Documents care and communicates with team; discharge planning as needed.
  • Collaborates with hospital departments for coordinated care.
  • Maintains safe, productive work environment and meets productivity standards.
  • Provides clinical supervision of OT Assistant and Therapy Technicians.

Responsibilities
Clinical Excellence/Patient Care
  • Examines patients/clients - obtains history, performs a systems review, and selects and administers discipline- and age-specific tests and measures to obtain data
  • Evaluates patients/clients - makes clinical judgments based on data gathered during the examination
  • Develops patient/client diagnoses or problem lists (cluster of signs and symptoms)
  • Develops patient/client prognoses (optimal level of improvement and time needed to achieve it)
  • In collaboration with patient or family develops plans of care with measurable goals
  • Develops and implements patient/client interventions, including delegating and supervising support staff
  • Provides patient and family education and training
  • Completes required patient care documentation and communication
  • Formulates and implements patients discharge plans in collaboration with others
  • Collaborates with hospital departments and community agencies to deliver coordinated care.

  • Provides clinical supervision of the Occupational Therapist Assistant and Therapy Technicians
