Job Overview

Location: Hawarden Regional Healthcare – Hawarden, IA 51023

Occupational Therapist (OT) – Under limited supervision, provide services to prevent and rehabilitate physical dysfunction or pain across all age groups. Work in a new hospital addition with modern equipment.

We welcome new graduates or soon to be graduates. Hawarden is centrally located between Sioux Falls and Sioux City and provides a great community for families.

Responsibilities
  • Perform OT evaluations for all age groups.
  • Interpret physicians’ referrals and obtain pertinent chart information.
  • Select and utilize appropriate evaluation procedures and interpret results to develop treatment programs.
  • Assess general mental, emotional, and cognitive status, and report abnormalities.
  • Set measurable goals based on estimated length of hospital stay.
  • Utilize patient care protocols and make recommendations for new procedures.
  • Plan treatment programs incorporating strength, motor control, joint mobility, soft tissue, pain, balance, coordination, posture, cardiopulmonary function, endurance, and gait.
  • Educate patients, nursing staff, and families; involve them in planning and discharge.
  • Recommend equipment for hospital and discharge needs.
  • Use appropriate OT interventions, procedures, and equipment defined by specialty area.
  • Apply research findings to evaluation and treatment.
  • Ensure department equipment is functional and safe; report defects.
  • Document evaluations, progress notes, discharge summaries, reports, and incident reports accurately and timely.
  • Provide written and audiovisual materials to enhance instruction.
  • Organize schedule to reflect patient care priorities and assist in coverage during absence.
  • Carry patient load that reflects productivity standard of the unit.
  • Deliver education to department members after continuing education courses.
  • Supervise assigned OTAs and technicians and assist in performance appraisals.
  • Utilize general computer knowledge and department software.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, committees, conferences, and safety procedures.
  • Complete mandatory training such as Healthstream, The Patient Experience, Safe Choices, Crucial Conversations, and others as designated.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Program (AOTA) with required certification.
  • Active or temporary OT license by the State of Iowa.
  • Entry-level or less than two (2) years of clinical experience.
  • BCLS certification.
  • Effective communication with all health care team members.
  • Ability to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent change.
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance if travel required.
  • General computer skills and familiarity with department software.
  • Comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
  • Personal presence characterized by honesty, integrity, and caring.
Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Successfully pass pre-employment physical examination and drug screening.
  • Comply with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Frequently lift, bend, walk, stand and carry patients; lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Perform effectively under stressful situations.
  • Expected exposure to environmental elements such as inclement weather, dust, noise, chemicals, and infectious disease.
  • Regular and physical attendance required.
