Description of Work

This position provides Occupational Therapy services to residents diagnosed with neuro-cognitive diagnoses who are medically fragile and cannot be served by a community nursing home. Responsibilities include completing assessments, developing treatment plans, recommending adaptations, and participating in interdisciplinary team processes. The OT develops treatments to improve musculoskeletal and neuromuscular functioning, trains staff on proper use of adaptive equipment, and supports residents' independence and quality of life.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities / Competencies

• Effective application of Occupational therapy principles and techniques for neurocognitive populations.
• Use of sensory modality strategies for residents with autism and dementia.
• Development of adaptations for residents with limited mobility and severe motor impairments.
• Effective communication and teamwork with multidisciplinary professionals, guardians, and paraprofessionals.
• Staff training in safe lifting, transfer techniques, and use of adaptive equipment.
• Application of person-centered Occupational Therapy interventions.
• Collaboration with Swallow Team for oral feeding development.

Management Preferences

Minimum of 5 years of experience in assessments and interventions for residents with neurocognitive, developmental, and intellectual delays, including those with limited verbal skills.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

Licensed to practice as an Occupational Therapist in North Carolina. Qualification may also be achieved through a combination of education and experience as detailed at oshr.nc.gov/experience-guide.
