Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Health System is seeking an Occupational Therapist - Lymphedema at Amherst Cooper Foster Medical Office Center. You will join the Physical Therapy-Neurological Institute and work on a day/evening rotation, 8:00am-6:30pm schedule, Monday through Thursday with no weekends or holidays.

The role focuses on helping patients perform daily living activities after injuries, stroke, or age-related changes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Graduate of an Occupational Therapy Program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).
  • Current Ohio licensure as an Occupational Therapist (OT).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Certification through the AHA or American Red Cross.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and treat patients with physical, emotional, cognitive and psychosocial deficits affecting daily living skills.
  • Assess patient ability and design a plan of care including type and frequency of treatment.
  • Implement the treatment plan and document progress.

Occupational Therapists provide many wide‑ranging services to help patients improve their ability to perform normal activities of daily living. Whether from a physical injury, stroke, cognitive differences, surgery or general aging, your work as an OT helps maximize their confidence in performing self‑care, working and managing life responsibilities.

A caregiver in this position works various hours from Monday to Thursday with no weekends or holidays required.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Evaluate and treat patients with physical, emotional, cognitive and/or psychosocial deficits which impact their abilities to successfully perform independent living skills.
  • Assess patient ability to safely and effectively perform independent living skills and design the appropriate plan of care, including type and frequency of treatment.
  • Implement the treatment plan using appropriate modalities and document subjective and objective findings of patient progress.
  • Educate the patient and family/caregiver about patient deficits.
  • Direct and supervise the activities of support personnel.
  • Act a clinical instructor or participate in the education and evaluation of students.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Graduate of an Occupational Therapy Program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association
  • Current Ohio licensure as an Occupational Therapist (OT)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Healthcare Provider Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Experience in clinical area
  • Certification with Lymphedema

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk without assistive device and to maintain balance despite sudden load in order to support patient from falling.
  • Ability to meet physical demands characterized at the heavy level defined by 1993 Leonard Matheson and Ministry of Labor.
  • Ability to lift and reach with arms sufficiently to lift patient’s arm and leg during therapeutic treatment program.
  • Sensation of touch and manual dexterity to be able to palpate muscle tension or to monitor patient pulse.
  • Visual acuity to observe patient’s gross and fine motor movements in order to analyze these movements and to read all patient monitors.
  • Ability to speak clearly enough to instruct patients and families.
  • Ability to hear at a conversational level to understand patient’s description of symptoms and response to treatment.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
