Job description

Job Summary

The Occupational Therapist-Inpatient provides patient care, including evaluations, goal setting, treatment planning, family training, and the application of treatment techniques in accordance with the designated practice act and department policy and procedure.

Supervises non California Children's Services (CCS)-paneled staff as assigned, attends discharge rounds for patients with therapy needs, and coordinates services with the Medical Therapy Unit (MTU) program when working with adolescent patients. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience

Graduate from an accredited Occupational Therapy program required. A suitable combination of education, training or experience along with a California license in Occupational Therapy is acceptable. No prior experience required.

Knowledge and Skills

Able to read, write legibly, and speak in English (Spanish preferred). Demonstrates professional communication quality, uses necessary computer and software programs, and troubleshoots and calibrates patient care equipment or builds treatment equipment as needed.

Recognizes safety problems and corrects them. Relates and communicates positively, effectively, and professionally with others; assertive and consistent in following and enforcing policies; works calmly and courteously under pressure; leads, supervises, teaches, and collaborates; accepts direction.

Communicates effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; thinks critically; works independently with minimal supervision; performs basic math functions; manages multiple assignments; works well under pressure; problem solves; organizes and prioritizes workload; recalls information accurately; pays close attention to detail.

Able to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hears sufficiently for general conversation; identifies various sounds associated with the workplace; sees adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents; discerns temperature variances through touch.

Licensures and Certifications

Currently licensed by the California Board of Occupational Therapy is required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification issued by the American Heart Association is required.
