Responsibilities

The Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA, OTA) in Home Health is responsible for providing occupational therapy to patients in their homes to restore them to their fullest physical ability. The Occupational Therapy Assistant performs duties in accordance with policies, procedures, and the established plan of care.

  • Responsible for following all state-specific laws governing the provision of occupational therapy in home care, and following the treatment set only as defined by the supervising OT.
  • Following the plan of care, instructs and aids patients in evidence-based treatment within the scope of the occupational therapy assistant and according to state laws.
  • Observes, records, and reports to the supervising OT, nurse supervisor, and/or physician the patient's response to treatment and changes in condition. Coordinates care with other healthcare team members as appropriate.
  • Instructs patients, family, caregivers, and other healthcare team members in therapy areas within the scope of the occupational therapy assistant.
Education and Experience

License Requirements:

  • Current OTA licensure in the state of practice
  • Current CPR certification
  • Valid driver's license, vehicle insurance, and access to a dependable vehicle or reliable transportation
