Employment Status: Full time. Shift: Day. Location: 1615 Franklin Rd, Roanoke, VA. Requisition Number: R159891. Position: Occupational Therapist Assistant – Home Care (Float).
Responsibilities
- Perform selected procedures under the direction of a licensed occupational therapist.
- Provide patient care based on therapist evaluation and plan of care, taking into account age and level of development.
- Coordinate patient care and clinical activities through written and verbal communication with patients, families, therapists, Clinical Team Leaders, managers and other health care team members.
- Document patient care in the medical record and complete other treatment‑related forms in compliance with regulatory agencies and hospital policies.
- Supervise and collaborate with support staff, volunteers and students to achieve efficient clinical activity and quality patient care.
- Participate in patient care and departmental professional activities such as in‑services, performance improvement, program development/evaluation, new employee orientation, committee membership, peer review, and staff meetings.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment programs within scope of certification, age‑specific criteria, departmental guidelines/protocols, and orders from occupational therapists or physicians.
- Work primarily indoors in hospital, nursing home, outpatient or home settings; may travel to other Carilion facilities or patient homes as needed.
Qualifications
- Associate degree from an AOTA accredited occupational therapy assistant program.
- Licensed to practice Occupational Therapy Assistant in Commonwealth of Virginia.
- AHA BLS‑HCP certification required within six months of employment.
- Effective interpersonal, communication, customer service and teamwork skills.
- Ability to travel statewide to various locations within Southwest Virginia; own transportation required for home‑care assignments.
