Job summary

Las Palmas Medical Center, part of HCA Healthcare, seeks an Occupational Therapist Acute in El Paso, TX to evaluate and treat patients with daily living and movement problems. You’ll use functional activities and therapeutic modalities to restore function and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team.

The role requires a BS in Occupational Therapy, Texas OT licensure, BCLS, and 1–2 years of therapy experience; new grads are welcome. Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Licensed by the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners.
  • BCLS certification.
  • 1-2 years experience in therapy settings preferred.
  • New graduates accepted.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Performs Functional Assessments and re-assessments with individualized plan of care.
  • Treats patients using occupational therapy techniques and modalities.
  • Completes same-day documentation meeting professional standards.
  • Supervises aides, technicians, students and volunteers as assigned.
  • Interdisciplinary communication with care team about patient status and discharge needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Summary and Qualifications
POSITION SUMMARY:

Evaluates and treats patients with impaired activities of daily living, movement dysfunction and pain resulting from injury, disease or other health related conditions. Treats patients with the use of functional activity, physical agents and methods to assist in restoring normal function after illness or injury.

POPULATION SERVED:

Core competencies will be assessed primarily on the following patient population(s) served: neuro, orthopedic, spine care, pulmonary including but not limited to: CVA/TIA, joint replacement/fracture repair, etc.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Performs Functional Assessments and Re-assessments: Assessment of patient is completed according to unit policy. Collects pertinent subjective and objective information. Performs an assessment appropriate to the specific patient case scenario. Formulates appropriate assessment/re-assessment, treatment, plan of care and goals, which are individualized to the specific patient. Re-assesses patient per department policy; takes appropriate action based on re-assessment. Potential discharge needs are identified and documented.

  • Treats Patients: Selects and applies appropriate occupational therapy techniques, functional activity, exercises and therapeutic modalities based on current standards of clinical practice. Selects and utilizes rehab equipment in a safe and effective manner. Modifies the treatment program when indicated, in order to maximize patient progress.

  • Documentation: Completes documentation on the same day that assessment, re-assessment or treatment was rendered. Documentation meets generally accepted professional standards.

  • Supervision: Appropriately directs the activities of Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants, Technicians, students and volunteers. Ensures that treatment plans and documentation are carried out correctly by Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants. Initiates corrective action (in conjunction with director) when individuals supervised fall below standards.

  • Interdisciplinary Interactions: Communicates and collaborates with interdisciplinary team regarding: patient status, discharge plans, equipment needs, recommendations, and other patient issues.

  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS
  • Licensed by the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners.

  • BCLS

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • BS in Occupational Therapy
PREFERRED EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
  • 1-2 years experience in any therapy setting

  • New graduates accepted

  • Knowledge of Occupational Therapy principles and practices, general anatomy and physiology, diseases and post surgical conditions, body movements and functions, and medical terminology.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
