Job summary

Peter & Paul Community Services in Saint Louis, MO seeks an Occupational Therapist to provide focused, short-term interventions for Jugan Shelter clients aged 55 and older. The OT evaluates functional needs and provides client-centered interventions to help participants participate safely in daily activities, maintain independence, and prepare for housing.

The role maintains an active weekly caseload and weekly group sessions.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree from an accredited occupational therapy program.
  • Current Missouri OT license and NBCOT certification.
  • Experience with older adults experiencing homelessness or complex medical/behavioral health needs.
  • Strong clinical documentation, communication, organization, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Complete functional and client-centered assessments for referred clients, including ADLs, cognition, safety, mobility, and independence barriers.
  • Develop and provide individualized, short-term interventions based on clients’ goals and identified needs.
  • Teach and reinforce practical daily functioning, health and safety skills, self-management, and housing transition.
  • Recommend adaptive strategies, environmental modifications, assistive devices, or community resources.
  • Provide individual sessions and, when useful, small skill-building groups for eligible clients.
  • Coordinate with Jugan case managers and other service providers to implement OT recommendations in housing plans.
  • Maintain timely assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries, and service data for PPCS and funders.
  • Track clients served, weekly caseload, services provided, and grant-outcome data.

Reports to: Director of Programs

Position Summary

The Occupational Therapist provides focused, practical support to Jugan Shelter clients age 55 and older. The OT evaluates functional needs and provides short-term, client-centered interventions that help clients participate safely in daily activities, maintain independence, and prepare for housing. The position works closely with shelter case managers and maintains an active weekly caseload and weekly group sessions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Complete functional and client-centered assessments for referred clients, including activities of daily living, cognition, safety awareness, mobility, community living skills, routines, and other barriers to independence.
  • Develop and provide individualized, short-term interventions based on each client’s goals and identified needs.
  • Teach and reinforce practical skills that support daily functioning, health and safety, self-management, and successful transition to housing.
  • Recommend adaptive strategies, environmental modifications, assistive devices, or community resources when appropriate.
  • Provide individual sessions and, when useful, small skill-building groups for eligible clients.
  • Coordinate with Jugan case managers and other service providers to incorporate OT recommendations into the client’s service and housing plan.
  • Maintain timely assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries, and service data required by PPCS and the funder.
  • Track clients served, weekly caseload, services provided, progress, and other information needed to document grant outcomes.
  • Follow all applicable professional standards, confidentiality requirements, PPCS policies, and local, state, and federal requirements governing clinical practice.
  • Participate in relevant team meetings and case consultation as needed.
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the scope and purpose of the position
Qualifications
  • Graduate degree from an accredited occupational therapy program.
  • Current occupational therapist license in the State of Missouri and current NBCOT certification, as applicable.
  • Ability to work effectively with older adults experiencing homelessness and clients with complex medical, behavioral health, cognitive, or substance-use-related needs.
  • Strong clinical documentation, communication, organization, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Peter & Paul Community Services.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience serving older adults, people experiencing homelessness, or individuals with complex medical, mental health, cognitive, or substance use needs.
Supervisory Responsibility: none
Physical and Environmental Requirements

The role requires regular interaction with clients and staff, movement throughout the program, and the ability to lift and carry at least 10 pounds.

Work Environment

Work is primarily performed onsite at Jugan Shelter in a shelter and office environment. This position operates in a professional environment.This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day,although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
