Theuniversityunion is seeking a Registered Occupational Therapist at our Rapid City, SD facility to perform diagnostic evaluations and develop treatment programs to maximize patients' functional abilities. You will use therapeutic exercises and adaptive equipment to help individuals reach independent living in daily activities.

You will maintain records, collaborate with the care team, and contribute to program design, equipment fabrication, and patient education.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy required.
  • Current registration with the American Occupational Therapy Association required.
  • Two years of experience preferred.
  • Prefer experience working with people with disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provides consultation in environmental design, adaptive equipment, and proper positioning of participants.
  • Maintains timely and accurate participant records and reports.
  • Designs and administers treatment programs to improve strength, ROM, and fine-motor skills.
  • Instructs participants in adapted techniques and use of adaptive equipment for daily activities.
  • Designs and fabricates splints, slings, and adaptive devices as prescribed.
  • Provides prevention therapy to maintain functional skills and teach energy conservation.
  • Assesses organizational skills, attention spans, cognitive abilities, and coordination.

Description

The Registered Occupational Therapist will provide diagnostic evaluations and treatment to assigned patients, and help patients reach maximum performance level and to use skills learned to the fullest to function in the community within the limits of their capabilities.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelors degree in occupational therapy required.
  • Current registration with the American Occupational Therapy Association required.
  • Two years of experience preferred.
  • Prefer experience in working with people with disabilities
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Ability to pass drug test.
  • Ability to pass criminal background test.
  • Ability to pass the medication administration course provided by the agency.
  • Valid driver’s license – must have a safe driving record and be insurable under our insurance.
Physical Requirements
  • Will engage in movements that involve lifting equipment used in patient care, etc.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. at times.
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Provides consultation in areas such as environmental design, adaptive equipment, proper positioning of participants.
  • Maintains timely and accurate participant records and reports.
  • Designs and administers treatment programs to increase participants’ levels of functioning. Uses therapeutic exercises and activities to improve or maintain strength, range of motion, and fine-motor coordination. Instructs participants in adapted techniques and the use of adaptive equipment for meal preparation, home management, dressing, feeding, and other self-care skills.
  • Designs and provides individualized therapy for adult learning-disabled participants.
  • Designs and fabricates splints as specified by doctors' prescriptions; designs and/or fabricates slings and adaptive equipment to meet the needs of participants.
  • Provides prevention therapy to maintain functional skills; instructs participants in energy conservation, joint protection, safety techniques for sensory loss, and transferring and visual field deficits.
  • Provides activities to assess participants' organizational skills, attention spans, cognitive abilities, coordination (fine and gross-motor), and adaptive-equipment needs.
  • Participates in participant support groups with other team members.
