Job Description

Essential Job Functions:

  • Adapts and modifies the environment, including assistive technology, and trains instructional staff to meet individual needs and promote independent functioning.
  • Monitors and re‑assesses the effects of occupational therapy interventions, and determines whether to continue, modify, or discontinue them.
  • Develops occupationally based intervention plans based on student needs and evaluation results.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary meetings to review evaluations, integrate findings, offer recommendations, and develop IEP and 504 goals.
  • Prioritizes and schedules work tasks independently.
  • Manages inventory of therapeutic equipment and assessments, and plans budget needs.
  • Maintains clinical and administrative records in accordance with professional standards, state guidelines, and school system policy.
  • Provides supervision of occupational therapy assistants and assumes responsibility for the students served.
  • Adheres to federal and state legislation, regulation, and policies affecting occupational therapy practice.
  • Reviews services for quality improvement and implements changes as needed.
  • Applies knowledge of appropriate assessment tools and techniques in motor and sensorimotor skill development.
  • Understands how motor and sensorimotor skill development impacts educational success.
  • Utilizes adaptive equipment and assistive technology to address access needs of children with disabilities.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to changing student needs.
  • Applies knowledge of special‑education regulations, district and state standards, and benchmarks.
  • Provides fieldwork education and supervision for occupational therapy assistant students.
  • Prepares reports and documentation to assure accountability.
  • Collaborates and consults with school staff, parents, and outside agencies to address motor and sensorimotor skill development issues.
