Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL is seeking a licensed Occupational Therapist (OTR) to evaluate and treat patients with physical, emotional, cognitive and psychosocial deficits in adult and pediatric settings within UAB St. Vincent's Birmingham.

Responsibilities include assessing independence in daily living activities, planning and applying treatment, documenting progress, educating patients and families, and supervising therapy assistants to ensure compliant, high-quality care.

Qualifications

  • BLS certification within 30 days of hire or transfer date.
  • Licensed Professional Rehab Therapist (OTR) credential from the Alabama Board of Occupational Therapy obtained prior to hire date or transfer date.

  • Assess patient’s ability to safely perform independent living skills and design the plan of care including type and frequency of treatment.
  • Implement the treatment plan using appropriate modalities and document patient progress; monitor and modify as needed.
  • Educate patients and family/caregivers about deficits and discharge planning; advise on adaptive equipment and support programs.
  • Oversee care provided by certified occupational therapy assistants and therapy technicians per regulations and standards.

Job Description

Evaluate and treat patients with physical, emotional, cognitive and/or psychosocial deficits.

  • Assess patient's ability to safely and effectively perform independent living skills. Design the appropriate plan of care, including type and frequency of treatment.
  • Implement the treatment plan using appropriate modalities. Document findings of patient progress. Monitor and modify the plan of care as needed. Seek consultation as necessary.
  • Educate the patient and family/caregiver about patient deficits. Plan and/or assist with patient discharge from therapy services and provide information regarding appropriate selection/use of adaptive equipment and support programs.
  • Oversee the care provided by certified occupational therapy assistants and therapy 3-Technicians according to established regulations and practice standards.
Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Licensed Professional Rehab Therapist specializing in Occupational Therapy (OTR) credentialed from the Alabama Board of Occupational Therapy obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.
