Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham seeks a licensed Occupational Therapist (OTR) to evaluate and treat patients with physical, emotional, cognitive and psychosocial deficits. You will design and implement plans of care, assess independent living skills, and document progress.

This role requires Alabama OTR licensure with BLS within 30 days of hire. You will supervise assistants, educate patients and families, coordinate discharge and work 8:00 am–4:30 pm, Monday–Friday, with rotating weekends/holidays

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
• Licensure as Occupational Therapist (OTR) by Alabama Board of Occupational Therapy.
• BLS Provider certification within 1 month of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and treat patients with physical, emotional, cognitive and/or psychosocial deficits.
• Assess patient's ability to safely perform independent living skills and design the plan of care including treatment type and frequency.
• Implement treatment plans using appropriate modalities; document progress and adjust plan as needed; seek consultation as necessary.
• Educate patients and families about deficits; assist with discharge planning and selection/use of adaptive equipment and support programs.
• Oversee care provided by certified occupational therapy assistants and therapy technicians per regulations and standards.

Job Description

Evaluate and treat patients with physical, emotional, cognitive and/or psychosocial deficits.

• Assess patient's ability to safely and effectively perform independent living skills. Design the appropriate plan of care, including type and frequency of treatment.
• Implement the treatment plan using appropriate modalities. Document findings of patient progress. Monitor and modify the plan of care as needed. Seek consultation as necessary.
• Educate the patient and family/caregiver about patient deficits. Plan and/or assist with patient discharge from therapy services and provide information regarding appropriate selection/use of adaptive equipment and support programs.
• Oversee the care provided by certified occupational therapy assistants and therapy 3-Technicians according to established regulations and practice standards.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Licensed Professional Rehab Therapist specializing in Occupational Therapy (OTR) credentialed from the Alabama Board of Occupational Therapy obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

Education

• Bachelor's degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
