Job summary

State of Oklahoma is seeking a Safety Consultant within the Department of Corrections Safety Administration to lead and advance occupational safety programs. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in safety, industrial hygiene, forestry or related field and two years of qualifying experience are required.
• Knowledge of occupational health and safety standards, procedures, laws and agency regulations.
• Ability to conduct inspections, analyze hazards and recommend corrective actions.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates and maintains occupational health and safety programs to prevent accidents.
• Prepares and revises safety rules for equipment and work areas with hazards.
• Inspects facilities and on-going work to identify hazards and stop dangerous activities when needed.
• Provides technical training on safety equipment use and hazard identification.
• Advises managers on inspection procedures and regulatory requirements; shares OSHA materials with employers.
• Investigates workplace fatalities, accidents and complaints; prepares reports.
