Job summary

Steel Dynamics in Columbus, MS is seeking an Occupational Health Nurse to support safety and health programs. The role reports to Operations Manager and Health Coordinator, requiring a valid RN license and CPR/AED certification.

You will manage on-site injuries, coordinate medical surveillance, conduct pre-employment screenings, and train staff in first aid and emergency response. This is a full-time, Monday–Friday position with after-hours on-call for injury management.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in state of practice.
• 2+ years hospital or clinic nursing experience.
• Excellent assessment skills in a clinical setting.
• Phlebotomy.
• Current CPR/AED certification.
• Willingness to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Treatment of on-site injuries and referral to outside medical care as needed.
• Case management for injured workers and facilitate return to work.
• Provide medical surveillance for all employees including annual audiograms, spirometry, vision screening and lead testing.
• Conduct pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and coordinate medical examinations.
• Participate in ergonomics assessments and job hazard analyses.
• Administration of the Drug and Alcohol program according to company policy.
• Train employees in First Aid and CPR/AED as Medical Responders.
• Train employees on Bloodborne Pathogens, Hearing Conservation, Violence in the Workplace, Ergonomics and Heat Stress to meet OSHA requirements.
• Advise on Workers’ Compensation claims as needed.
• FMLA Administration.
• Maintain HIPAA compliant documentation.
• Deliver regional health metrics and outcomes.
• Purchase supplies for the first aid clinic.
• Develop and meet site budget expectations; drive health outcomes.
• Collaborate with Safety Coordinators to recognize hazards and prevent injury.

The Occupational Health Nurse reports directly to the Operations Manager and indirectly to the Occupational Health Coordinator. The successful candidate holds a valid nursing license in practicing state and current certification in CPR/AED from American Red Cross or AHA.

The position is full time Monday – Friday with on-call required after hours for injury management.

• Willingness to work closely with the Safety Coordinators at the division level to recognize hazards and prevent injury

Qualifications

Required

• Active RN license in state of practice
• 2 or more years hospital or clinic nursing experience
• Excellent assessment skills in a clinical setting
• Phlebotomy
• Current CPR/AED certification
• Travel, as needed

Preferred

• 3 or more years of experience in occupational nursing or emergency nursing and/or clinic experience
• 3 or more years of experience in a manufacturing, industrial, and/or occupational environment
• Working knowledge of regulatory areas (ADA, OSHA, FMLA, Workers’ Compensation)
• CPR/AED Instructor
• Health coaching/certification
• Certified Occupational Health Nurse
• 3 or more years of experience in occupational nursing or emergency nursing and/or clinic experience
