Job summary

Steel Dynamics, Inc. seeks an Occupational Health Nurse to manage on-site health services, contribute to injury management, and maintain regulatory compliance. The role reports to the Operations Manager and Occupational Health Coordinator, requiring an active RN license and CPR/AED certification.

The position is full-time, Monday–Friday with after-hours on-call for injuries. Travel may be required to support divisional health initiatives and training across sites.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in state of practice.
• 2+ years hospital or clinic nursing experience.
• Excellent assessment skills in a clinical setting.
• Phlebotomy.
• Current CPR/AED certification.
• Travel, as needed.
• May not be related to another employee at location of employment.

Responsibilities

• Treat on-site injuries and refer to outside medical care as needed.
• Case management for injured workers and facilitate return to work.
• Provide medical surveillance for all employees including audiograms, spirometry, vision screening and lead testing.
• Conduct pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and coordinate medical examinations.
• Participate in ergonomics assessments and job hazard analyses.
• Administer Drug and Alcohol program according to policy.
• Train employees in First Aid and CPR/AED as Medical Responders.
• Train employees on Bloodborne Pathogens, Hearing Conservation, Violence in the Workplace, Ergonomics and Heat Stress to meet OSHA requirements.
• Advise on Workers’ Compensation claims as needed.
• Assist with FMLA Administration and HIPAA documentation.
• Support site health metrics and budget expectations.
• Collaborate with Safety Coordinators to recognize hazards and prevent injury.

The Occupational Health Nurse reports directly to the Operations Manager and indirectly to the Occupational Health Coordinator. The successful candidate holds a valid nursing license in practicing state and current certification in CPR/AED from American Red Cross or AHA.

The position is full time Monday - Friday with on-call required after hours for injury management.

• Treatment of on-site injuries and referral to outside medical care as needed

• Provide medical surveillance for all employees including but not limited to annual audiograms, spirometry, vision screening and lead testing
• Conduct new hire pre-employment drug and alcohol screening & coordinate medical examinations
• Participate in ergonomics assessments and job hazard analyses
• Administration of the Drug and Alcohol program according to company policy
• Responsible for training employees in First Aid and CPR/AED as Medical Responders to aid in the care of injured workers
• Responsible for training employees on Bloodborne Pathogens, Hearing Conservation, Violence in the Workplace, Ergonomics and Heat Stress to meet OSHA requirements
• Advise on Workers’ Compensation claims, as needed
• FMLA Administration
• Maintain HIPPA compliant documentation
• Accountable for delivery of agreed to regional health metrics and outcomes
• Purchase all supplies required for the first aid clinic
• Develop and meet site budget expectations
• Drive increased health outcomes including reducing population health risks, managing and eliminating workplace health risks and supporting improved business outcomes through advancing employee health and wellbeing
• Willingness to work closely with the Safety Coordinators at the division level to recognize hazards and prevent injury

Required

• Active RN license in state of practice
• 2 or more years hospital or clinic nursing experience
• Excellent assessment skills in a clinical setting
• Phlebotomy
• Current CPR/AED certification
• Travel, as needed

Preferred

• 3 or more years of experience in occupational nursing or emergency nursing and/or clinic experience
• 3 or more years of experience in a manufacturing, industrial, and/or occupational environment
• Working knowledge of regulatory areas (ADA, OSHA, FMLA, Workers’ Compensation)
• CPR/AED Instructor
• Health coaching/certification
• Certified Occupational Health Nurse
• 3 or more years of experience in occupational nursing or emergency nursing and/or clinic experience
