Job summary

Steel Dynamics, Inc. is seeking an experienced Occupational Health Nurse to support our Columbus, MS site. The role requires an active RN license, CPR/AED certification, and 2+ years in hospital or clinic settings.

You will manage on-site injury care, coordinate return-to-work processes, and conduct medical surveillance such as audiograms and vision screenings. This full-time position involves after-hours on-call for injury management and collaboration with Safety Coordinators.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in state of practice.
• 2+ years hospital or clinic nursing experience.
• Excellent assessment skills in a clinical setting.
• Phlebotomy.

Responsibilities

• Treat on-site injuries and refer to outside medical care as needed.
• Case management for injured workers and facilitate return to work.
• Provide medical surveillance for all employees (annual audiograms, spirometry, vision screening, lead testing).
• Conduct pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and coordinate medical examinations.
• Participate in ergonomics assessments and job hazard analyses.
• Administer Drug and Alcohol program per company policy.
• Train employees in First Aid and CPR/AED as Medical Responders.
• Train employees on Bloodborne Pathogens, Hearing Conservation, Violence in the Workplace, Ergonomics and Heat Stress to meet OSHA requirements.
• Advise on Workers’ Compensation claims as needed.
• FMLA Administration.
• Maintain HIPAA compliant documentation.
• Deliver regional health metrics and outcomes.
• Purchase all supplies for the first aid clinic.
• Develop and meet site budget expectations.
• Improve health outcomes and reduce risks to support business outcomes.
• Collaborate with Safety Coordinators to recognize hazards and prevent injury.

Overview

The Occupational Health Nurse reports directly to the Operations Manager and indirectly to the Occupational Health Coordinator. The successful candidate holds a valid nursing license in practicing state and current certification in CPR/AED from American Red Cross or AHA.

The position is full time Monday – Friday with on-call required after hours for injury management.

Responsibilities

• Accountable for delivery of agreed to regional health metrics and outcomes

• Drive increased health outcomes including reducing population health risks, managing and eliminating workplace health risks and supporting improved business outcomes through advancing employee health and wellbeing
• Willingness to work closely with the Safety Coordinators at the division level to recognize hazards and prevent injury

Qualifications

• 2 or more years hospital or clinic nursing experience

Preferred

• 3 or more years of experience in occupational nursing or emergency nursing and/or clinic experience
• 3 or more years of experience in a manufacturing, industrial, and/or occupational environment
• Working knowledge of regulatory areas (ADA, OSHA, FMLA, Workers’ Compensation)
• CPR/AED Instructor
• Health coaching/certification
• Certified Occupational Health Nurse
• 3 or more years of experience in occupational nursing or emergency nursing and/or clinic experience
