Job summary

Mercy Hospital is seeking a non-certified Surgical Technologist to support OB patient care on the Night PRN shift. You will assist with a wide range of procedures and provide clerical and clinical support under Nursing and Medical Staff supervision.

You will participate in patient transport, charting, phlebotomy, supply management, and ADL assistance for newborns, mothers, and pediatric patients, always maintaining Mercy's standards and teamwork. BLS required; English proficiency essential.

Qualifications

• High-School Diploma or GED required.
• Surgical Technology experience required at hire or deemed competent.
• American Heart Association BLS certification required.
• Must understand English (written and spoken).

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care and clerical support under nursing and medical staff.
• Perform designated clinical procedures and non-clinical tasks essential to patient care.
• Assist with operational tasks: patient records, bed turnover, registration, charge capture, supplies, phlebotomy, transport, and blood glucose checks.
• Support nursing team with ADL assistance for mothers, newborns, and pediatric patients.
• Maintain calm and work efficiently during obstetrical emergencies, as part of the team.

Job Responsibilities

Find your calling at Mercy! Maintains professional accountability and technical support for provision of patient care for the OB patients experience. Under the direction of Nursing and Medical Staff, provide a wide variety of duties related to patient care, clerical support and surgical assistance. Works cooperatively with others as part of a team and recognizes the importance of unit goals. Performs designated clinical procedures and non-clinical support tasks essential to providing care to the patient and the success of the unit. May assist in operational support tasks including maintenance of patient records, bed control and turnover, patient registration, charge capture, ensuring adequate supplies, phlebotomy, transport of specimens, patient transport, obtain blood glucose, Birth Certificate entry, and other duties as assigned. Support the nursing team and patients by providing supportive care and assistance with ADL's to newborns, childbearing and postpartum patients, pediatric patients, and others as assigned. Maintains calm and works efficiently and effectively through obstetrical emergencies, as part of the team. All duties are performed in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

Location: Mercy Hospital South - 10010 Kennerly Rd, St. Louis, MO 63128

Schedule: PRN Shift: Nights

Education: High-School Diploma or GED are required. This is a non-certified technologist position. May have attended and completed an accredited surgical tech program but does not have an active Surgical Technologist Certification (CST). You may be asked to provide proof of education.

Certifications: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

Experience: Surgical Technology experience required at hire or completion of a unit-based competency determined by department leader based on being deemed competent to perform independently.

Other: Must understand English both written and spoken. Must be able to perform job-related functions safely and successfully, with or without reasonable accommodation required by federal, state, or local law.

Transforming the Health of Our Communities

Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 195 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who was determined to help women and children in Dublin experiencing poverty. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill that dream. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, one of the first religious orders whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. In 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States. In 1856, they traveled to St. Louis. In the years to come, they would establish hospitals throughout the Midwest. Many of these would join together in 1986 as Mercy.
