Job summary

Mercy is seeking a Surgical Technologist to support the Operating Room team. The role involves providing surgical instruments to the team, coordinating patient care with colleagues, and upholding patient rights and confidentiality in alignment with Mercy Service Standards.

Minimum qualifications include a HS diploma or GED, English proficiency, and BLS certification. Applicants with surgical technology program completion or an equivalent credential are favored, with experienced non-certified

Qualifications

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Non-certified applicants may be considered with acceptable surgical technology experience.
  • Licensure or Certification in Surgical Technology preferred.
  • Preferred education includes a postsecondary certificate or associate degree in Surgical Technology.
  • Must understand English both written and spoken.

Job description

Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

Position Details

Minimum Qualifications (Level IV) Experienced/Complex/Routine Education: HS Diploma or GED.

Licensure: Surgical Technology experience or Graduate with a Degree in Surgical Technology or completion certification from an accredited surgical technology program preferred.

Experience: Non-certified applicants may be considered for this position with acceptable surgical technology experience.

Certifications: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

Other: Must understand English both written and spoken, must be able to safely and successfully perform job-related functions, with or without reasonable accommodation required by federal, state, or local law.

Preferred Education: Successful completion of a Postsecondary certificate or associate degree in Surgical Technology from an accredited surgical technology program.

Preferred Licensure - Certification: Surgical Technology Certification preferred.

Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 195 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who was determined to help women and children in Dublin experiencing poverty. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill that dream. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, one of the first religious orders whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. In 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States. In 1856, they traveled to St. Louis. In the years to come, they would establish hospitals throughout the Midwest.
