  • Perform clinical procedures and non-clinical tasks essential to patient care.
  • Assist with patient records, bed control, turnover, registration, charge capture, and supply management.
  • Support obstetrical patients including newborns, childbearing and postpartum care, pediatric patients, and others.
  • Maintain calm and effective response during obstetrical emergencies.

Position Details: Mercy Southeast - Cape Girardeau, MO OB Technician Shift: Full-Time, Nights/Holidays/Weekends
  • Under the direction of Nursing and Medical Staff, provide a wide variety of duties related to patient care, clerical support, and surgical assistance.
  • Works cooperatively with others as part of a team and recognizes the importance of unit goals.
  • Performs designated clinical procedures and non-clinical support tasks essential to providing care to the patient and the success of the unit.
  • May assist in operational support tasks including maintenance of patient records, bed control and turnover, patient registration, charge capture, ensuring adequate supplies, phlebotomy, transport of specimens, patient transport, obtain blood glucose, Birth Certificate entry, and other duties as assigned.
  • Support the nursing team and patients by providing supportive care and assistance with ADLs to newborns, childbearing and postpartum patients, pediatric patients, and others as assigned.
  • Maintains calm and works efficiently and effectively through obstetrical emergencies, as part of the team.
  • May be required to take call.
  • All duties are performed in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
Minimum Requirements
  • Education: High-School Diploma or GED is required.
  • This is a non-certified technologist position.
  • May have attended and completed an accredited surgical tech program but does not have an active Surgical Technologist Certification (CST).
  • You may be asked to provide proof of education.
  • Licensure: N/A
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Experience: Surgical Technology experience required at hire or completion of a unit-based competency within ____ months of hire. ** timeframe/months to be determined by department leader based on being deemed competent to perform independently.
  • Other: Must understand English both written and spoken, must be able to perform job-related functions safely and successfully, with or without reasonable accommodation required by federal, state, or local law.

Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 195 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who was determined to help women and children in Dublin experiencing poverty. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill that dream. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, one of the first religious orders whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. In 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States. In 1856, they traveled to St. Louis. In the years to come, they would establish hospitals throughout the Midwest. Many of these would join together in 1986 as Mercy.
