Job summary

Carson Tahoe Health in Carson City, NV seeks a Full Time Night Shift Surgical Technologist to support the Women’s and Children’s Center. You will assist the surgical team, prepare sterile supplies, and provide patient care during obstetric procedures and newborn care.

Required: BLS for healthcare providers, NRP within six months, and NBSTSA CST or CSFA or equivalent training; ongoing education as needed. Preferred: obstetric OR experience and a related degree.

Qualifications

• BLS for healthcare providers required.
• NRP training within 6 months of hire.
• NBSTSA CST or CSFA certification or equivalent training required.
• Completion of accredited CST training or obstetrical tech practice prior to 1/1/2018 acceptable.
• If not certified after 2018, must complete at least 15 hours annually of obstetrical technology continuing education.

Responsibilities

• Float to Pediatrics for assistance in patient care according to skillset.
• Assist care team pre- and post-delivery and post-partum duties.
• Assist with breastfeeding and newborn care and family bonding.
• Prepare sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment for surgical procedures.
• Pass supplies and instruments to the surgical team during procedures.
• Maintain cleanliness and sterility of OB area and OR equipment.

Summary

Supports the Women’s and Children’s Center through clerical, patient care, and surgical scrub duties.

Qualifications

Required:

• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers
• Must successfully complete Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within six (6) months of hire or position entry
• Meeting one of the following qualifications:
• Certified through National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA)
• Completion of an accredited surgical technologist training; or engaged in the practice of obstetrical technology in a health care facility before January 1, 2018
• Hired after (01/01/2018) and not certified, must successfully complete not less than 15 hours annually continuing education concerning the practice of obstetrical technology and must maintain records with Human Resources
• Note: A health care facility may employ a person who does not possess the qualifications prescribed by subsection 1 to engage in the practice of surgical technology at the health care facility if, after conducting a thorough and diligent search, the health care facility is unable to employ a sufficient number of surgical technologists who possess such qualifications. A health care facility may continue to employ such a person after the health care facility determines it is able to employ a sufficient number of surgical technologists who possess such qualifications. Preferred:

• Bachelor’s degree in field of service
• Prior experience in obstetric or operating rooms
• Successful completion of non-violent crisis intervention course

Essential Functions

• Willing to float to Pediatrics for assistance in patient care according to their skillset.
• Assists the care team pre- and post-delivery as well as post-partum duties including nutrition and hygiene.
• Provides assistance, as needed, with breast feeding and other newborn care including family bonding and interaction.
• Prepares, gathers, and ensures working order of all sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment necessary for a surgical procedure.
• Competently assists surgical team by passing supplies, equipment, and instruments during surgical procedure. Prepares and cuts materials for sutures, handles specimens, and can hold other instruments and equipment to assist surgical team.
• Knowledge and ability to clean, maintain, and dispose of all equipment and supplies in the OB area and OR.
• Ability to strip and set up LDRP including sterilizing equipment, stocking supplies, and assembling charts.
• Maintains a clean, organized, and safe working environment in both patient care and clerical areas.
• Assists with Unit Clerk functions utilizing the EMR registration process as needed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
