Job summary

Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) for the Labor & Birth unit. The role includes assisting in surgical cases, perioperative support, and caring for OB, newborn, and postpartum patients under nursing and medical supervision.

Responsibilities

• Maintain supplies, records, and assist with phlebotomy and specimen transport as needed.

Job description

Position Details: Nights, Full Time, 36 hours per Week Mercy Hospital - W Memorial Rd Labor & Birth Overview: Maintains professional accountability and technical support for provision of patient care for the OB patient's experience. Under the direction of Nursing and Medical Staff, provide a wide variety of duties related to patient care, clerical support and surgical assistance. Works cooperatively with others as part of a team and recognizes the importance of unit goals. Performs designated clinical procedures and non-clinical support tasks essential to providing care to the patient and the success of the unit. May assist in operational support tasks including maintenance of patient records, bed control and turnover, patient registration, charge capture, ensuring adequate supplies, phlebotomy, transport of specimens, patient transport, obtain blood glucose, Birth Certificate entry, and other duties as assigned. Support the nursing team and patients by providing supportive care and assistance with ADLs to newborns, childbearing and postpartum patients, pediatric patients, and others as assigned. Maintains calm and works efficiently and effectively through obstetrical emergencies, as part of the team. May be required to take call. All duties are performed in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards. We are high-paced, high-energy unit specializing in Obstetrics and Mother Baby, Well Newborn Care along Post Women's Surgical unit.

Within our unit we have:

• 40-MB rooms
• 15-LDR rooms
• 14-High Risk Antepartum
• 8-bed OBED unit
• 4-LIBC Birthing Suites
• 4-Pre Post Rooms
• 3-OR suites (where we circulate all of our own cases)

We also have full-time Lactation Consultants who see both inpatient and outpatients. Mercy OKC is the leading delivering hospital in Oklahoma City and second leading in the Ministry. Our teams offer a comprehensive suite of services at the Love Family Women's Center.

Qualifications

Education: High-School Diploma or GED is required. This is a certified technologist (CST) position. The Completion of a Surgical Technologist Program per the National Board of Surgical Technology is required. Maintain Certification without gaps. You may be asked to provide proof of education.

Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification required.

Experience: New graduate up to experienced surgical technologist experience.

Other: Must understand English both written and spoken, must be able to perform job-related functions safely and successfully, with or without reasonable accommodation required by federal, state, or local law.

Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 195 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who was determined to help women and children in Dublin experiencing poverty. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill that dream. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, one of the first religious orders whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. In 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States. In 1856, they traveled to St. Louis. In the years to come, they would establish hospitals throughout the Midwest. Many of these would join together in 1986 as Mercy.
