The Role

Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes. Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics). Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency; and quantitative judgments concerning technical data. Uses personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports. May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.

This position will support facilities in either the technical services, project management, or crane engineering team. The successful candidate will provide engineering technical support on control engineering systems. You will create, modify, maintain, repair and troubleshoot a variety of control systems software associated with equipment, complex machinery, utility infrastructure, building operating systems, Audio Video systems and submarine delivery/transportation systems by converting requirements into a functional user interface and control code. Position troubleshoots control systems, provides technical control solutions and produces engineering documentation, technical reports, drawings (sketches, drawings, diagrams and schematics) and performs mathematical calculations using established formats, formulas and configuration guidelines. Position involves specialized skills and experience with the specification and design of total controls package systems, relay interfaces, programmable logic controls (PLC), human machine interfaces (HMI), logic development, ability to program source codes, robotics/automation, and develop/review/update AUTOCAD drawings. Position involves the ability to read and produce electrical / controls schematics. You’ll collaborate with key stakeholders to meet unique requirements and work with hardware and software systems and platforms to deliver a system with robust capabilities.

Must Have

Associate's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience

One of the following may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:

  • NNS Apprentice School graduate
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
  • High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience
  • High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience

Nice to Have

  • Strong working knowledge of utility infrastructure and systems
  • Comfortable working in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Ability to build rapport and positive relationships with our production, engineering, and maintenance staffs.
  • Proficiency in standard office software such as email and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to learn and use our Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS). We use SAP Plant Maintenance Module.
