Job summary

GE Vernova in Hawaii seeks a Power Plant Instrumentation, Controls and Electrical Technician to maintain and repair all electrical, instrumentation and control systems on site, ensure calibration of input and output devices, and support continuous plant operations.

You will work with switchgear, MCCs, sensors and PLC/DCS equipment, participate in safety programs, respond to call-outs, and climb access ladders as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • At least 2 years of experience in power plant, marine, refinery, or similar industries.
  • Proficient in calibration and troubleshooting of instrumentation.
  • Experience with repair or replacement of process control instrumentation.
  • Fundamental knowledge of PLCs or distributed control systems.
  • Fundamental knowledge of electrical distribution equipment.
  • Able to use test instruments for electrical testing and troubleshooting.
  • Available for call-outs during weeknights and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair electrical, instrumentation and control systems on site.
  • Perform calibration on control system input and output devices.
  • Maintain power distribution equipment including switchgear and MCCs.
  • Assist in improving maintenance procedures and record keeping.
  • Maintain Gas Turbine Continuous Emissions Monitoring System.
  • Support Operations and Maintenance personnel as required.

What you’ll do
  • Maintain and repair all electrical, instrumentation and control systems on site.
  • Perform calibration as required on all control system input and output devices.
  • Example: transmitters, control valves, etc.
  • Maintain power distribution equipment including switchgear, motor control centers, power distribution panels, etc.
  • Assist in improvement of maintenance procedures and record keeping.
  • Maintain Gas Turbine Continuous Emissions Monitoring System.
  • Support Operations and Maintenance personnel as required.
  • Comply with all applicable environmental, health, and safety policies to maintain a safe working environment.
What you’ll bring (Basic Qualifications)
  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Minimum 2 years progressively responsible experience in power plant, marine, refinery, or similar industries.
  • Proficient in calibration and troubleshooting of Instrumentation
  • Experience with repair or replacement of process control instrumentation
  • Fundamental knowledge of programmable logic controllers or distributed control systems
  • Fundamental knowledge of electrical distribution equipment.
  • Able to use test instruments for electrical testing and troubleshooting.
  • Available for call-outs during the week and weekends.
  • Willing to learn equipment operation, troubleshooting and repair from Manufacturers Manuals or other information.
  • Able to climb ladders and stairs to access equipment installed within the power plant.
  • Able to pass a pre-hire background check, drug screening, and physical exam.
What will make you stand out
  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Electronics Technology or Electronics Engineering Technology.
  • Installation, setup, and troubleshooting of networks and network switches
  • Demonstrated knowledge in calibration and troubleshooting of instrumentation with record of success outside of school.
  • Experience in Maintenance Management System.
  • Experience with troubleshooting and repair without established procedures.
  • Knowledge of Modbus concept.
  • Familiarization with the National Electrical Code.
  • Willing to share knowledge and experience with other technicians in the group.
  • Proficient in using computers running Microsoft Windows 7 and Microsoft programs Word, Excel, etc.
  • Flexible, adapts well to changes in scope and schedule.
  • Thrives on variety, learning, and cooperation.
  • Collaborates effectively in a team setting.
  • Qualified to operate aerial lift, scissor lift, forklift.
