The Tejas Energy Center, located in Houston, TX, is a 247 MW simple-cycle gas-fired generating facility with three LM6000 PC units totaling about 126 MW and one Siemens 501 D5 gas turbine rated at 121 MW. The plant features automatic generation control (AGC), evaporative cooling, water injection for NOx control, selective catalytic reduction, and Allen-Bradley PLC controls, supporting peak energy demand within ERCOT’s Houston Zone.
Opportunity Summary
The O&M / Electrical, Controls, and Instrumentation (EC&I) Technician supports the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Tejas Energy Center, a 247 MW simple-cycle facility with three LM6000 PC units and one Siemens 501 D5 gas turbine. This position combines plant operations with hands‑on electrical, controls, and instrumentation maintenance.
The role performs troubleshooting, calibration, repair, and preventive maintenance on low-voltage through 480V systems, including Allen-Bradley PLCs, MCCs, switchgear, turbine controls, and instrumentation.

Working Relationships
The O&M / EC&I Technician reports to the O&M Supervisor, receives general direction from the Plant Manager, and coordinates with other plant personnel as needed.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.
Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.
Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame‑resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high‑voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.
Fitness for Duty
All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post‑offre physical examination, drug screening, and post‑employment random drug screening.
Work Schedule
The O&M / EC&I Technician works a rotating 12-hour shift schedule, alternating between days and nights to support continuous 24/7 operations. This position will require extended hours, flexible shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed to support plant operations and business needs and may also require callout availability. Depending on the position, on‑call status may or may not apply.
Compensation
This position offers a base pay rate ranging from $ to $ per hour, along with eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

Associates or better in Electrical Engineering or related field.
High School or better.
High school diploma or equivalent required. An associate degree in instrumentation, electrical technology, power plant technology, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent industry or military experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Relevant experience in power generation, industrial, or manufacturing environments involving turbine operations, electrical systems, maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex plant equipment.
Hands‑on experience inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems up to 480 volts, including motors, transformers, switchgear, MCCs, wiring, and associated control equipment.
Demonstrated ability to operate turbine‑generator and auxiliary systems, including startup and shutdown activities; experience with LM6000 PC, Siemens 501 D5, or comparable gas turbine equipment is preferred.
Working knowledge of electrical and control systems, including Allen‑Bradley PLCs, ladder logic, control logic, turbine controls, automatic generation control (AGC), and associated plant instrumentation.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting P&IDs, flow diagrams, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and other technical documentation used during troubleshooting and system walkdowns.
Skilled in the use of diagnostic and calibration equipment, including multimeters, process calibrators, communicators, oscilloscopes, and related instrumentation tools.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with plant personnel, contractors, and vendors in support of safe and reliable plant operations.
