Join to apply for the O.D. Grinder role at Acme Industrial Company.

We are hiring for a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift O.D. Grinder. The O.D. Grinder is responsible for setting up and operating external grinding machines to grind external cylindrical surfaces of rotating metal workpieces or arbors. This position involves analyzing blueprints, shop orders, and specifications, and selecting appropriate tooling based on grinding procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Study blueprints or shop orders to plan grinding operations.
  • Dress grinding wheels manually or with preset devices, following ANSI standards.
  • Grind arbors and centers as required, maintaining tolerances of less than .0002 for diameter and concentricity.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Set controls and read dials to operate grinding workpieces between centers.
  • Select and set work surface speeds, in-feed rates, and wheel grades.
  • Position stops, set wheel depth, and control feed rates manually or automatically.
  • Apply coolant flow appropriately during grinding.
  • Verify workpiece dimensions using precision measuring instruments.
  • Dress grinding wheels to specified profiles.
  • Maintain lubrication and coolant supplies, and ensure a clean work area.
  • Train operators and perform wheel changes and balancing as needed.
  • Maintain productivity and quality standards, using mechanical means to move parts and wheels.
Requirements
  • 2-4 years of trade school, vocational training, or relevant work experience with similar machines or materials.
  • Experience reading blueprints and working within tight tolerances.
  • Experience with grinding operations and materials.
  • Proficiency in English communication skills.
  • Dependability.
  • Availability for shifts from 7:00AM to 3:30PM, 3:30PM to 12:00AM, or 11:00PM to 7:30AM.
