Job Description

Join UChicago Medicine at Crown Point, as a EEG Technologist III in Perioperative & Procedural Services. Be a vital part of our team at our cutting‑edge facility.

Responsibilities: As an EEG Technologist III, you will prepare patients, perform Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS) under physician supervision, assist with needle EMG procedures, manage equipment, and perform EEG monitoring and analysis. You will act independently in the preparation and recording of routine and long‑term EEG, advance preliminary reports, and handle data management tasks such as clipping, pruning, archiving, and purging. You will conduct specialty procedures including intracranial EEG setup, stimulation, ECOG, DBS recordings in the operating room, and WADA tests. You will identify and annotate abnormal findings, write preliminary reports, and alert staff to urgent observations. You will also support intraoperative electrocorticography, cortical stimulation, and subdural monitoring.

Essential Job Functions
  • Obtains history, explains procedure, measures head, and applies electrodes with collodion or paste according to the 10/20 or expanded 10/10 system.
  • Prepares patients, performs NCS under physician supervision, assists with needle EMG, and manages equipment.
  • Recognizes physiological and non‑physiological artifacts and monitors them.
  • Obtains standard and complex long‑term audio/video EEG recordings from scalp and intracranial electrodes; recognizes artifacts and equipment malfunctions and rectifies them.
  • Accurately annotates normal and abnormal EEG findings, recognizes seizures and seizure‑like patterns, subtle changes, changes in level of consciousness, and prognostic patterns using ACNS terminology.
  • Independently writes preliminary EEG reports with detailed descriptions of patterns, semiology, and ictal event mapping; provides representative samples.
  • Identifies abnormalities (ictal, inter‑ictal, paroxysmal, non‑epileptic behavior); clips, prunes, and archives as separate files per SOP.
  • Alerts appropriate staff of urgent findings per SOP and provides support for interpretation.
  • Performs intraoperative ECoG, cortical stimulation, DBS recordings, and Wada studies with minimal assistance.
  • Participates in subdural/ stereotactic EEG monitoring, electrode connections, montage creation/verification, stimulation troubleshooting, and disconnection.
  • Maintains equipment, detects malfunctions, corrects problems, and notifies the supervisor.
  • Trains and assists junior technologists; attends conferences; helps revise policies and procedures; performs duties as requested.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework in a health‑related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience performing electro‑neurodiagnostic studies with accurate interpretation of EEG data.
  • CPR certification.
  • Registry in Electroencephalography (R.EEGT.)
  • Experience in EMG/NCV.
  • Registered in two of the three specialties recognized by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic Technology (ABRET):
    • EEG
    • CLTM
    • NA‑CLTM
