Job summary

Craven County Government is seeking a Registered Dietitian to assess the nutritional status of prenatal patients, develop individualized care plans, and provide counseling to support optimal pregnancy outcomes.

The role requires RD credential and active licensure. You will document in the Crossroads system and electronic medical record, coordinate with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other staff, and participate in monthly nutrition meetings. Transcript is required.

Qualifications

• Registered Dietitian credential required.
• Master’s in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Nutrition acceptable.
• Didactic Program in Dietetics credential with two years nutrition experience acceptable.
• Dietetics Technician, Registered with two years nutrition experience acceptable.
• B.S. in Dietetics or Public Health Nutrition with two years nutrition experience acceptable.

Job description

To assess the nutritional status of prenatal patients and develop a plan of care that will meet their nutritional needs and result in an optimal pregnancy outcome.Certify the patient in WIC if eligibility criteria are met. Document the assessment and care plan in the Crossroads system. Document the plan and patient's response to the plan in Crossroads and provide feedback. Assign food packages as needed to WIC clients.

Assess the nutritional status of all maternity clinic prenatal patients by collecting and evaluating anthropometric, biochemical, clinical, dietary, and eco-social data. Develop an individualized nutrition care plan based on the assessment findings and assist each patient in understanding and implementing the plan through counseling, discussion, audiovisual tools, and printed educational materials. Provide ongoing follow-up to monitor the patient's progress, ensure compliance, and adjust the care plan as needed. Reassess and modify the plan as the patient's condition or needs change. Document all assessments, care plans, interventions, and patient responses in the electronic medical record.

Develop therapeutic nutrition care plans for nutritionally high-risk prenatal patients. High-risk status may be the primary concern or secondary to underlying medical conditions. Common risk factors include adolescence, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, anemia, renaldisease, irregular weight gain patterns, and substance use. Document individualized care plans in the electronic medical record, reassessing andmodifyingthe plan as the patient's condition or risk factors change. Monitor and document the patient's response to the care plan and provide appropriate feedback to support adherence and improved pregnancy outcomes.

Participate in monthly WIC and maternity staff meetings to coordinate nutrition procedures, goals, and patient care plans with the interdisciplinary team, including physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and social workers. Present updated nutrition information that may be applied in maternal care.

In the event of a disaster, you may be required to assist as needed. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor, Deputy Director, or Health Director.Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetics Registration; or Master's degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Nutrition; or graduation from a Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education - approved Didactic Program in Dietetics and two years nutrition experience; or Dietetic Technician, Registered with the Commission on Dietetics Registration with a Bachelor's degree in any subject area from an accredited four year college or university and two years nutrition experience; or a Bachelor's of Science degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or Community Nutrition from an accredited four year college or university and two years nutrition experience.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Specialized knowledge in principles and application of nutrition and dietetics to improve health outcomes. Knowledge of relevant medical terminology and skill in documenting in the medical record. A wide based knowledge of nutrition, especially developmental and prenatal nutrition is necessary.
