Job summary

Prince William County Government is seeking a Nutritionist to support Congregate and Home Delivered Meals for older adults. You will work with the nutrition team to ensure nutritious meals, provide counseling, and educate clients in a community setting.

You will collaborate with the Senior Center staff, maintain required records, and ensure HIPAA/DARS compliant services. A valid RD/ND credential is required with relevant experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred in some circumstances as noted.
  • Two years of experience in nutrition and dietetics.
  • One year of experience working with older adults.
  • Registered Dietitian or Registered Nutritionist certification required.

Responsibilities

The Prince William Area Agency on Aging is committed to providing nutritious, delicious meals as well as valuable nutrition education to the older adults in our community. Become an intricate part of our nutrition services team, ensuring high-quality food and exceptional customer service. We are looking for an organized, dedicated nutrition professional with excellent interpersonal skills to become part of our nutrition services team.

As a Nutritionist with the Agency on Aging, you will collaborate with the nutrition team to provide guidance for our Congregate and Home Delivered Meals programs, following all local, state, and federal guidelines. If you are a licensed dietitian and experienced in providing nutrition services to older adults in the community, this is the opportunity for you.

About This Role

This position works in partnership with the Senior Center Lead Cook, Cooks, and Nutrition Services Manager to ensure the delivery of nutritious, appealing meals that comply with Virginia Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) standards. You will also help Senior Center members build knowledge and confidence about healthy eating and nutrition. The role includes collaboration with community partners and volunteers to support effective program outcomes.

Duties for this position include, but are not limited to, interviewing and assessing clients, providing nutrition education and counseling, developing educational materials, developing cycle menus, and preparing required records and reports to ensure compliance with public health protocols.

Typical duties may include (but are not limited to)
  • Review and provide technical guidance in the development of cycle menus that ensure variety and nutritional adequacy while reducing waste.
  • Manage community nutrition programs that are designed to benefit older adults.
  • Perform nutrition education for older adults through publications, group presentations, demonstrations, health fairs, and similar outreach formats.
  • Conduct annual reassessments on Home Delivered Meals clients.
  • Provide one‑on‑one nutrition counseling for meal clients upon request.
  • Document pertinent client information in the Agency’s electronic data collection system.
  • Conduct program satisfaction surveys and manage data of nutrition programs to determine service effectiveness.
  • Prepare and maintain records, outcome reports, and case histories in accordance with DARS and HIPAA standards
  • Develop educational materials such as exhibits, posters, bulletin boards, and pamphlets designed to highlight nutritional and dietary information
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s required if earned after January 1, 2024)
  • Two (2) years of experience in nutrition and dietetics
  • One (1) year of experience working with older adults
  • Registered Dietitian or Registered Nutritionist
Preferences

A successful candidate will have experience planning and implementing cycle menus for older adults. They will work effectively with internal staff, volunteers, and older adults, as well as the community, their families, and community partners. A strong candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, problem‑solving abilities, adaptability, and strong adherence to policies, procedures, and program guidelines.

  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with staff and volunteers
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated exceptional customer service
  • Ability to handle confidential and protected health information (PHI) with discretion and in accordance with HIPAA privacy requirements
  • Strong organizational skills
  • 3 or more years of experience in nutrition & dietetics
  • Experience managing nutrition‑related programs, projects, or community initiatives
  • Experience performing nutrition assessments
Special Requirements
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Must pass a DMV record check and possess a valid driver’s
  • Complete a health physical and be cleared for work
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Certifications/trainings required (or must be attained within 12 months):

ServSafe certification

APS Mandated Reporter certification

CPR & First Aid certification

PeerPlace training

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Hiring Salary Range

$70,921.50 - $89,000/Annually
