RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Nutritionist (Registered Dietitian) to join the Radiation Oncology team at Morris Cancer Center in New Jersey. The role involves the nutritional care of ambulatory adult and pediatric oncology patients, with duties spanning assessments, diagnoses, interventions, and education for patients, families, and staff.

Qualifications

• Must hold a Baccalaureate degree and/or Master’s degree in foods and nutrition or related science and be registered or eligible for registration with the American Dietetic Association.
• Must be credentialed as a Registered Dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.

Nutritionist

Summary

As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the Nutritionist/Registered Dietician is responsible for the nutritional care of ambulatory adult and pediatric oncology patients.

A Typical Day As a Nutritionist May Look Like

• Responsibilities include performing nutritional assessments, formulating a specific nutrition diagnosis, planning and implementing nutritional interventions and tracking progress in attaining expected outcomes


• Provides ongoing nutritional follow-up and documents nutritional plan of care


• Additionally, the Registered Dietician will be responsible for nutritional education for both patients/families and staff and involvement with clinical investigators in nutrition research


• Utilizing the Nutrition Care Process and Evidence-Based Practice Guidelines to deliver comprehensive nutrition care across various patient populations.


• Completing clinical nutrition assessments, physical assessments, and customized care plans in accordance with department standards.


• Identifying clinical risk factors such as Protein Calorie Malnutrition and developing targeted nutrition diagnoses and interventions.


• Calculating complex nutrient intake studies, enteral tube feeding formulas, and parenteral nutrition formulas to ensure optimal patient support.


• Documenting comprehensive assessment data, diagnoses, care plans, and patient progress notes efficiently within the electronic medical record (EMR).


• Assessing educational needs and providing tailored nutrition counseling to patients and families, accounting for cultural, ethnic, and religious factors.


• Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and providing clinical guidance to Menu Technicians and Food Service staff to maintain seamless operations.


• Serving as a preceptor and mentor for Dietetic Students, supervising educational experiences, and supporting the orientation of new team members.

To Be Considered For This Position, You Must Have

• Baccalaureate degree and/or Master s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in foods and nutrition or related science and registration/registration eligibility with the American Dietetic Association


• Required Licensure/Credential: Must be credentialed as a Registered Dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.


• 1 year of experience in a dietary setting preferred.


• Core Competencies: Strong baseline of interpersonal communication skills, proficiency with electronic patient medical records, and ability to calculate complex nutritional formulas.
