Job summary

Jefferson Franklin Community Action Corporation (JFCAC) is hiring a Nutritionist to plan, implement and evaluate WIC nutrition and breastfeeding components. This in‑office role involves coordinating with WIC staff and healthcare partners, and guiding program activities in Jefferson and Franklin Counties.

You will split time between Hillsboro and Arnold offices, traveling as needed with your own transportation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition or ACEND‑accredited program.
  • WIC experience is preferred and beneficial.
  • Ability to work with low‑income families and collaborate with healthcare partners.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct nutrition and health assessments to determine WIC eligibility.

  • Provide nutrition education and breastfeeding counseling.

Incorporated in 1965, Jefferson Franklin Community Action Corporation (JFCAC) is a 501(c)(3) non‑profit organization committed to assisting low‑income individuals, and families, achieve self‑sufficiency through quality programs in Jefferson and Franklin Counties. We are a federal, state, and locally funded Community Action Agency.

JFCAC offers a variety of impactful programs for eligible individuals, from rental and utility assistance to a Nutritional Food Supplement program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC).

To carry out our mission and expand our impact, we are seeking a dedicated professional to step into a vital role within our Agency - The Nutritionist.

This is an in‑office position. You will work 2 days in our Hillsboro, MO office and 2 days in our Arnold, MO office. You're off on Fridays!!!

A Nutritionist in a Community Action setting plays a critical role in improving the health and nutrition of pregnant women, new mothers, infants and young children.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Nutritionist is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating WIC nutrition and breastfeeding components including guiding the WIC para and professional health staff.

MAJOR TASKS
  • Conduct nutrition and health assessments to determine WIC eligibility, identify nutrition risks, assign risk factors, and document participant information in the WIC Management Information System (MIS).
  • Obtain and document necessary medical, health and nutrition information to certify WIC participants, including conducting height/length, weight and hemoglobin measurements.
  • Provide individualized nutrition education, counseling, goal setting, and follow‑up services to support healthy lifestyle and nutrition practices.
  • Provide breastfeeding education, promotion, and support, including individualized counseling and assistance to participants experiencing breastfeeding concerns, challenges, or barriers.
  • Prescribe WIC‑approved food packages, formulas, and supplemental nutrition products in accordance with program policies and regulations.
  • Coordinate nutrition services with healthcare providers and make referrals to community resources as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with WIC policies, procedures, and program requirements.
  • Participate in staff training, quality improvement initiatives, surveys, and program development activities.
  • Assist with staff education and training as assigned and contribute to enhancing WIC nutrition education materials and services.
  • WIC outreach as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition OR completion of an ACEND‑accredited nutrition/dietetics program OR dietetic internship resulting in a verification statement from a didactic program in nutrition and dietetics.
    • Educational transcripts must be reviewed and approved by Missouri WIC State Agency staff prior to hire.
  • Knowledge of nutrition, public health, and breastfeeding support.
    • WIC experience (preferred)
  • Experience working with low‑income families, in childcare, health and/or education is preferred
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Ability to provide effective nutrition education, counseling, and behavior‑change support.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with participants, healthcare providers, and community partners.
  • Ability to organize work, maintain accurate records, and use computer systems effectively.
  • Understanding of cultural, social, and economic factors that influence health and nutrition outcomes.
  • Commitment to providing respectful, participant‑centered services.
  • Adequate means of transportation
    • You will be working 2 days in Hillsboro, MO and 2 days in Arnold, MO utilizing your own transportation
    • May be required to travel in and/or out of the community utilizing your own transportation
  • Must be willing to submit to criminal background screenings
OTHER REQUIRED CAPABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Maintain required professional credentials and licensures, as applicable, and complete ongoing continuing education in nutrition, breastfeeding, and public health topics to meet WIC program requirements, as set forth by the State of Missouri, and support professional growth.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
  • Base Pay: $23.03 per hour – may increase based on education and relevant experience
  • 4‑Day workweek with Fridays off
